Pharmic action:

Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide neutralize free hydrochloric acid of gastric juice without causing its secondary hypersecretion. In addition, increase of gastric juice pH while taking Maalox® leads to decrease of pepsin activity in gastric juice.

The drug also has adsorptive and coating effect, due to which the impact of damaging factors on the mucous membrane of the esophagus and the stomach is reduced.

Pharmacokinetics:

Magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide are considered topical antacids. Because of low absorption, they have no systemic action.
