Iodine has a pronounced antimicrobial effect. The active ingredient has a cauterizing effect in high concentrations. Small doses of elemental iodine have a local irritant effect. The principle of action is based on the ability of the active substance to precipitate tissue proteins.

In relation to metabolism, iodine has increased dissimilation processes. In patients with atherosclerosis there is a decrease in the level of beta-lipoproteins and cholesterol in the blood. The active substance is able to increase lipoproteinase and fibrinolytic activity of the serum and slow down blood clotting processes.

The accumulation of iodine in syphilitic gummas promotes their softening and gradual resorption. At the same time, accumulation of the active component in tuberculous foci intensifies the inflammatory process. If the active substance is excreted by the excretory glands, increased secretion and irritation of the glandular tissues are noted.

Indications

For external use: infectious-inflammatory skin lesions, injuries, wounds, myalgias.

For local use: chronic tonsillitis, atrophic rhinitis, purulent otitis, trophic and varicose ulcers, wounds, infected burns, fresh thermal and chemical burns of I-II degree.

For oral use: prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis, tertiary syphilis.

It is used topically by irrigation of the mucous membranes of the pharynx, larynx and application in case of angular stomatitis (scrofula).

Interaction

The drug should not be used simultaneously with hydrogen peroxide and other disinfectants.

Special Instructions

Iodism phenomena are possible with prolonged use.
