Hyaluronic acid is a specific substrate that is part of the enzyme hyaluronidase. In turn, hyaluronic acid is a mucopolysaccharide with glucuronic acid and acetylglucominase as part of it.

Hyaluronic acid is extremely important for the body because of its viscosity, which causes it to “cement” the intermediate connective tissue, thereby improving joint mobility, helping hematomas dissolve, softening scars, and removing or reducing contractures.

In addition, hyaluronic acid facilitates the movement of fluids in the interstitial spaces and reduces tissue swelling. Lidaza is most effective when it is used at the beginning of the pathological process.

How to take, the dosage

In cicatricial lesions administer 64 units (1 ml) daily or every other day (10-20 injections in total) subcutaneously (under the scar tissue) or intramuscularly (near the lesion).

In case of traumatic lesions of nerve plexuses and peripheral nerves the drug is injected subcutaneously in the area of the affected nerve (64 units in procaine solution) every other day; 12-15 injections for the course. The course of treatment is repeated if necessary.

When used in ophthalmic practice the drug is administered subconjunctival – 0.3 ml, parabulbar 0.5 ml as well as by electrophoresis.

Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis with productive character of inflammation shall be administered in combination therapy to increase concentration of antibacterial medicines in the lesion area by injection and/or inhalation; Inhalation shall be carried out once a day using 5 ml of solution (320 units). A course of treatment consists of 20-25 inhalations. If necessary, repeat courses at intervals of 1.5-2 months.

Oternally, in the form of dressings impregnated with the drug solution. To prepare the solution, every 64 units are dissolved in 10 ml of sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution or boiled water at room temperature. A sterile dressing folded in 4-5 layers is moistened with this solution, applied to the affected area, covered with wax paper and fixed with a soft dressing. The dose depends on the area of the lesion (20-60 ME per sq cm), averaging 300 ME per bandage. The dressing is applied daily for 15-18 hours for 15-60 days. With long-term use, a break is taken every 2 weeks for 3 to 4 days.

When applied by electrophoresis, 300 ME is dissolved in 60 ml of distilled water, 2-3 drops of 0.1% solution of hydrochloric acid is added and injected with the anode on the affected area for 20-30 minutes. The course of treatment is 15-20 sessions. Applicative dosing mode can be alternated with electrophoresis. The prepared solution should be used within 24 hours.

Interaction

It improves absorption of drugs administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly, enhances the effect of local anesthetics.

Special Instructions

The solution should not be administered through a catheter in which solutions containing cations have previously been administered. Injection solutions are prepared on 0.9% sodium chloride solution or 0.5% procaine solution, for inhalation – on 0.9% sodium chloride solution, for electrophoresis – on distilled water.
Before treatment it is advisable to test with intradermal injection of 20 µl hyaluronidase.
Do not inject into infected inflammatory areas and tumors. Hyaluronidase should not be used in acute hemorrhages.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, acute infectious and inflammatory diseases, recent hemorrhages.
For inhalation – pulmonary tuberculosis with marked respiratory insufficiency; pulmonary bleeding, hemoptysis; acute intercurrent diseases; malignant neoplasms, fresh vitreous hemorrhage.
With caution. Pregnancy, lactation.

Side effects

Allergic reactions; with prolonged use – local irritation.

Overdose

Symptoms: chills, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, tachycardia, decreased blood pressure, local edema, urticaria, erythema.

Treatment: administration of epinephrine, glucocorticosteroids; antihistamines.
