Interacts with free radicals in the liver and converts them into less toxic compounds, interrupting the process of lipid peroxidation, prevents the destruction of cellular structures.

In damaged hepatocytes it stimulates the synthesis of structural and functional proteins and phospholipids (by specific stimulation of RNA-polymerase A), stabilizes cell membranes, prevents the loss of cell components (transaminases), accelerates regeneration of liver cells.

Inhibits cell penetration of some hepatotoxic substances.

Pharmacokinetics.

Absorption is low and slow (half-absorption period is 2.2 hours), metabolized in the liver by conjugation, elimination half-life is 6 hours. It is excreted mainly with bile in the form of glucuronides and sulfates. It does not accumulate in the body. Intestinal-hepatic circulation is observed.
