PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug whose main properties are analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-edema action.
It penetrates well into the subcutaneous tissue, ligaments and muscles, into the synovial fluid and reaches therapeutic concentrations there. The concentration of the drug in plasma is extremely low. Ketoprofen has no negative effect on the articular cartilage.
Indications
Symptomatic therapy:
– rheumatoid arthritis and periarthritis;
– ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterew’s disease);
– psoriatic arthritis;
– reactive arthritis (Reiter’s syndrome);
– osteoarthritis of various localizations;
– tendinitis, bursitis;
– myalgia;
– neuralgia;
– sciatica;
– musculoskeletal trauma (including sports.
– injuries of the musculoskeletal system (including sports), contusions of muscles and ligaments, sprains, tears of ligaments and tendons of muscles.

Composition
1 g of cream for external use contains:

ketoprofen – 50 mg;

How to take, the dosage
A small amount of cream (3-5 cm) is applied in a thin layer to the skin over the lesion 2-3 times a day, rubbing lightly.
The duration of treatment is 14 days or more (after doctor’s consultation).
Interaction
Because the concentration of the drug in the blood plasma is extremely low, manifestations of interaction symptoms with other drugs (similar symptoms with systemic use) are possible only with frequent and prolonged use.
The simultaneous use of other topical forms (ointments, gels) containing ketoprofen or other NSAIDs is not recommended.
Concomitant use of acetylsalicylic acid reduces the degree of binding of ketoprofen to blood plasma proteins.
Ketoprofen reduces excretion of methotrexate and contributes to its toxicity.
The interaction with other drugs and the effect on their excretion are not significant.
Patients taking coumarin-containing anticoagulants are recommended to be treated under medical supervision.
Special Instructions
When using Ketonal, avoid contact of the drug with the mucous membranes and eyes.
Stop using the drug if any side effects occur.
At all times during therapy, direct sunlight and ultraviolet radiation should be avoided.
The cream may be used in combination with other forms of the drug Ketonal (capsules, tablets, suppositories). The total dose regardless of the drug dose should not exceed 300 mg.
If a patient forgets to apply the cream, he should use it at the time the next dose is to be applied, but do not double it.
Effect on driving and operating ability: No data.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
hypersensitivity to salicylates, thiaprofenoic acid or other NSAIDs, fenofibrate, UV blockers, fragrances; violation of the integrity of the skin (eczema, sore dermatitis, open or infected wounds);
He has a history of bronchial asthma attacks caused by taking NSAIDs and salicylates;
He has a history of photosensitivity;
exposure to sunlight, including indirect sunlight.including indirect sunlight and UV exposure in a tanning bed during the whole period of treatment and for 2 more weeks after discontinuation of the treatment;
Pregnancy third trimester;
children under 15 years of age.
With caution: liver and/or kidney function disorders, gastrointestinal erosive lesions, blood diseases, bronchial asthma, chronic cardiac insufficiency.
Side effects
The most common local reactions occur. Definition of the frequency of adverse reactions: very common (â¥1/10), common (â¥1/100 and < 1/10), infrequent (â¥1/1000 and< 1/100), rare (â¥1/10 000 and < 1/1000), very rare (< 10 000).
Allergic reactions: very rare – angioedema, anaphylaxis.
Skin and skin appendages: infrequent – erythema, itching, burning, eczema, transient dermatitis of mild severity; rare – urticaria, rash, photosensitization, bullous dermatitis, purpura, erythema multiforme, lichenoid dermatitis, skin necrosis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome; very rarely – a single case of severe contact dermatitis (due to poor hygiene and insolation), a single case of severe generalized photodermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis.
Respiratory system disorders: very rare – asthmatic attacks (as a variant of allergic reaction).
Urinary system disorders: very rare – deterioration of renal function in patients with chronic renal failure.
Overdose
Symptoms: irritation, erythema, itching.
Treatment: the drug should be withdrawn. Symptomatic therapy is carried out.
Pregnancy use
The drug is contraindicated for use in the third trimester of pregnancy.
The use in I and II trimesters is possible in cases when the expected benefit of therapy for the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus.
Ketonal should not be used during lactation (breastfeeding).
