Iodopyron is an antiseptic, when used externally it has bactericidal (against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, including antibiotic-resistant strains of E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus), fungicidal and anti-inflammatory effects.

How to take, the dosage
Externally. Iodopyron powder contains 6-8% active iodine.
The 1% solution is prepared in the pharmacy. 0.1-0.5% solutions are prepared immediately before use from 1% solution.
As skin antiseptic to treat surgeon’s hands 0.1% (in active iodine) solutions (5 ml) are used; surgical field is wiped with a cloth soaked in solution; with extensive burns the patient is put into a bath with 1:32 or 1:50 solution for 10-15 minutes.
For complex treatment of purulent wounds, disinfection of the operating field and treatment of donors’ elbow bends – 0.5% and 1% (by active iodine) solutions of iodopyron.

Special Instructions
Avoid getting the solution in the eyes.
Do not heat before use.
Do not use on insect bites of domestic or wild animals.
At the time of use, indicator papers for the detection of hidden bleeding in stools and urine may show false positives due to the strong oxidizing effect of povidone iodine.
The staining on skin and tissues is easily washed off with water.
The use of the drug does not affect driving and engaging in other potentially hazardous activities requiring increased concentration and quick psychomotor reactions.

Side effects
Dry skin, skin itching. Allergic reactions (skin hyperemia, urticaria).
If applied to a large wound surface, a burning sensation may quickly pass, which soon disappears.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose: irritation at the application site.
Treatment: symptomatic.
Long-term use (more than 7-10 days) may cause iodism phenomenon (“metallic” taste in the mouth increased salivation swelling of eyes or throat, etc.) on appearance of which the drug should be stopped and a doctor should be consulted.
Iodine may damage the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) if accidentally swallowed. The stomach should be flushed with 05% sodium thiosulfate solution as an antidote orally used activated charcoal starch paste flour broth mucous drink milk and/or intravenously every 4 hours 10 ml 10% sodium thiosulfate solution as well as symptomatic therapy.
