Gelmindazololol is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug; it is most effective for enterobiasis and trichocephaliasis.
Indications
Enterobiasis, ascariasis, ankylostomidosis, strongyloidiasis, trichocephaliasis, trichinellosis, teniasis, echinococcosis, multiple nematodes, alveococcosis, capillariasis, gnathostomosis, mixed helminth infections.

How to take, the dosage
Orally with a small amount of water.
Adults and children over 3 years.
In enterobiasis – once for 100 mg/day (1 tablet); treatment course of 1 day. Since reinfection in enterobiasis is quite common, the treatment should be repeated in 2 and 4 weeks.
It is recommended to treat all family members simultaneously.
With ascariasis, trichocephaliasis, hookworm disease and mixed helminthiasis: 200 mg/day (1 tablet in the morning, 1 tablet in the evening); treatment course – 3 days.
With shadenioidosis, strongyloidiasis. Adults: 400 mg/day (2 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets in the evening); treatment course is 3 days. Children over 3 years old: 200 mg/day (1 tablet in the morning, 1 tablet in the evening); treatment course is 3 days.
In echinococcosis.
Adults and children over 14 years old: During the first 3 days 500 mg 2 times a day, the dose is increased to 500 mg 3 times a day during the next 3 days; further the dose is increased up to 1000-1500 mg 3 times a day. The average duration of treatment of echinococcosis caused by Echinococcus granulosis is 4-6 weeks, that of Echinococcus multilocularis – up to two years.
In trichinellosis 3 times a day by 200-300 mg on the 1st day, on the 2nd day 4 times a day by 200-300 mg, and from 3 to 14 days – 3 times a day by 500 mg.
Interaction
Reduces the need for insulin in diabetic patients.
Should not be used simultaneously with lipophilic substances.
Cimetidine may increase the blood concentration, carbamazepine and other metabolism inducers – decrease, in this regard the concentration of drugs in serum should be monitored.
Simultaneous use of mebendazole and metronidazole should be avoided.
Special Instructions
The drug contains lactose, so patients with rare hereditary lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or impaired glucose / galactose absorption this drug is contraindicated.
In patients with diabetes it is necessary to monitor the plasma glucose concentration.
In case of long-term use the peripheral blood count, liver and kidney function should be controlled.
Within 24 hours after taking the drug the use of ethanol, fatty foods, taking laxatives is prohibited.
Periodic examination of anal and fecal smears after the end of treatment is mandatory: therapy is considered effective if there are no helminths or their eggs during the next 7 days.
The results of studies of Steven-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis indicate a possible link between their occurrence and simultaneous use of mebendazole and metronidazole. There are no other data documenting cases of such drug interaction. That is why concomitant use of mebendazole and metronidazole should be avoided.
Effect on the ability to drive vehicles, mechanisms
Patients should be careful when driving vehicles and operating machinery, because dizziness and drowsiness may occur during treatment.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Mebendazole, nonspecific ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, liver failure, childhood (under 2 years), pregnancy, lactation.
Side effects
Allergic reactions: skin rash, urticaria, angioneurotic edema, Stephen-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, exanthema, anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions.
Hematopoietic disorders: neutropenia.
In the digestive organs: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, increased activity of liver transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, hepatitis (when used in high doses for a long time).
Nervous system disorders: dizziness, headache, drowsiness, seizures.
Urinary system disorders: hypercreatininemia, glomerulonephritis (when used in high doses for a long time).
Other: hair loss (when used in high doses for a long time).
Overdose
Symptoms: abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. When used in high doses for a long time: reversible liver dysfunction, hepatitis, neutropenia.
Treatment:The drug should be removed from the stomach by vomiting or gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal, symptomatic therapy.
