A remedy for the treatment of alopecia. It has a stimulating effect on hair growth in men and women with androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness). Appearance of signs of hair growth is observed after 4 months or more of using the drug 2 times a day. The onset and severity of the effect may vary from patient to patient. After discontinuation of minoxidil the growth of new hair is suspended, and after 3-4 months it is possible to restore the initial appearance.
The exact mechanism of action of minoxidil as a hair growth stimulator in patients with androgenic alopecia is unknown.
When used systemically, minoxidil has a vasodilatory effect. No systemic side effects associated with systemic absorption of minoxidil have been observed in controlled clinical studies following external administration of minoxidil in patients with both normal and elevated BP.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied externally, minoxidil is poorly absorbed through normal intact skin: on average, 1.4% (0.3-4.5%) of the total dose applied enters the systemic bloodstream. When applied externally, the serum concentration of minoxidil is determined by its rate of absorption through the skin. After discontinuation of use, approximately 95% of minoxidil that has undergone systemic absorption is eliminated within 4 days.
Indications
Androgenetic alopecia in men and women (with the aim of restoring hair growth or stabilizing the process of hair loss).

The appearance of signs of hair growth is observed after 4 months or more of using the drug 2 times a day. The onset and severity of the effect may vary from patient to patient. After stopping minoxidil, new hair growth stops, and after 3-4 months the original appearance can be restored.
The exact mechanism of action of minoxidil as a hair growth stimulator in patients with androgenetic alopecia is unknown.
When used systemically, minoxidil has a vasodilating effect. In controlled clinical studies, after topical application of minoxidil in patients with both normal and high blood pressure, no systemic side effects associated with systemic absorption of minoxidil were observed.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, minoxidil is poorly absorbed through normal intact skin: on average, 1.4% (0.3-4.5%) of the total applied dose enters the systemic circulation. When applied externally, the concentration of minoxidil in the serum is determined by the rate of its absorption through the skin. After discontinuation of use, approximately 95% of systemically absorbed minoxidil is eliminated within 4 days.
Special instructions
If systemic side effects occur (chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, decreased blood pressure, sudden increase in body weight, swelling of the arms and/or legs), as well as redness and irritation at the site of rubbing, minoxidil should be discontinued and, if necessary, appropriate therapy should be prescribed.
Some patients experienced changes in hair color and structure after using minoxidil.

From the cardiovascular system: in some cases – arterial hypotension.

With the simultaneous application of minoxidil to the skin and preparations for external use containing tretinoin, anthralin / dithranol (which cause a change in the protective function of the skin), it is possible to increase the absorption of minoxidil.
