A combination remedy of herbal origin. Its action is caused by reflex reactions associated with irritation of sensitive nerve endings of the skin and subcutaneous formations. It has a local irritating (“distracting”) mild local analgesic effect.

Indications

As a “distracting” local anesthetic for neuralgia, myalgia, arthralgia, myositis.

Pharmacological effect

Special instructions

After applying the ointment, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Avoid getting the ointment in the eyes and mucous membranes. If the drug gets into your eyes or mucous membranes, rinse them thoroughly with water and consult a doctor.

The use of the drug does not affect driving or engaging in potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.

Camphor, Levomenthol, Eucalyptus globulus leaf oil

Composition

Levomenthol (L-menthol) -18 g
Racemic camphor -10 g
Eucalyptus oil -10 g
Excipients:

Solid petroleum paraffin, grade P-1 – 30.5 g
Vaseline – up to 100 g

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; dermatological diseases; violation of the integrity of the skin at the sites of intended application of the drug; children under 12 years of age.

Side Effects

Allergic reactions are possible; burning, tingling, feeling of cold in the areas where the ointment was applied.

Interaction

Due to the low systemic absorption of Gevkamen ointment, the risk of drug interactions is low.
However, it should be remembered that the terpene components included in the drug are inducers of microsomal liver enzymes that metabolize other drugs. Therefore, there is a possibility of weakening the effect of other medications used in conjunction with Gevkamen ointment.

When used simultaneously with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for local use, Gevkamen enhances their effect and increases the depth of penetration into soft tissue in the area of ​​application.

Dimethyl sulfoxide, when applied simultaneously with Gevkamen ointment, enhances the systemic absorption of the essential oil components included in its composition and increases the depth of penetration into soft tissues in the application area.

Overdose

An overdose of Gevkamen when applied topically in the form of an ointment is unlikely due to the low systemic absorption of the drug.

The likelihood of an overdose increases with accidental or intentional use of the ointment orally. A typical clinical picture does not develop when Gavkamen is taken orally.

Possible symptoms: dizziness heartburn nausea vomiting bradycardia and low blood pressure disorientation confusion muscle weakness miosis cramps.

Helpful measures include gastric lavage (if the ointment is taken orally), supportive and symptomatic therapy aimed at eliminating the problems that have arisen. There is no specific antidote.
