Gaviscon® Forte is a drug that forms a protective gel barrier and prevents the contents of the stomach from flowing back into the esophagus, preventing heartburn.

Indications

Symptomatic treatment of dyspepsia associated with increased acidity of gastric juice and gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn, sour belching, feeling of heaviness in the stomach after eating), incl. during pregnancy.

Pharmacological effect

Gaviscon® Forte is a drug that forms a protective gel barrier and prevents stomach contents from flowing back into the esophagus, preventing heartburn.

Special instructions

10 ml of suspension contains 106 mg (4.6 mmol) sodium and 78 mg (2 mmol) potassium. This should be taken into account if it is necessary to follow a diet with limited salt content (for congestive heart failure, impaired renal function) or while using medications that can cause the development of hyperkalemia.

It should be taken into account that 10 ml of suspension contains 200 mg (2 mmol) of calcium carbonate. Therefore, caution should be exercised in prescribing the drug for hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis and recurrent formation of kidney stones containing calcium.

If there is no improvement within 7 days, the patient should consult a doctor.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery

The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and machinery, as well as to engage in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.

It is possible to use Gaviscon® forte during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, children’s age (up to 12 years).

Side Effects

Possible: allergic reactions – urticaria, bronchospasm, anaphylactic reactions.

Interaction

The drug contains calcium carbonate, which exhibits antacid activity, therefore, at least 2 hours should pass between taking Gaviscon® forte and other drugs, especially when used simultaneously with histamine H2 receptor blockers, tetracycline antibiotics, digoxin, fluoroquinolones, iron salts, ketoconazole, antipsychotics, thyroxine, penicillamine, beta-blockers, corticosteroids, chloroquine, diphosphates.

Overdose

Symptoms: bloating.

Treatment: symptomatic therapy.

Store at 15 – 30 °C.
