How to take, the dosage
Ingestion. Tablets should be chewed and kept in the mouth until complete resorption.
Adults and children over 15 years take 1-2 tablets 4 times a day 1 hour after meals and in the evening before going to bed or in case of discomfort, epigastric pain or heartburn.
In peptic ulcer disease the drug should be taken 30 minutes before meals. The maximum daily dose is 12 tablets.
Children 10 to 15 years are given half the recommended dose for adults.
For prevention – 1 tablet 15 minutes before taking drugs that irritate the mucous membrane of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. The duration of treatment should not exceed 15-20 days.
Interaction
It can adsorb some medicines, thus reducing their absorption.
. Reduces and slows absorption of digoxin, indomethacin, salicylates, chlorpromazine, phenytoin, H2-histamine receptor blockers, beta-adrenoblockers, diflunisal, isoniazid, tetracycline antibiotics, quinolones (ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin, enoxacin, grepafloxacin and others.
Azithromycin, cefpodoxime, pivampicillin, rifampicin, indirect anticoagulants, barbiturates, fexofenadine, dipyridamole, zalcitabine, bile acids – chenodeoxycholic and ursodeoxycholic, penicillamine, iron and lithium, quinidine, lansoprazole, mexiletine, ketoconazole.
When concomitantly taken with enteric-coated drugs, increased alkalinity of gastric juices may lead to an accelerated disruption of the coating and cause irritation of the stomach and duodenum. M-cholinoblockers, by slowing gastric emptying, enhance and prolong the effects of the drug.
Special Instructions
The interval between taking Gastracid® and other medicinal products should be 1-2 hours.
In case of longer use (more than 20 days) regular medical supervision is required. The drug contains sorbitol, which is contraindicated in congenital fructose intolerance.
The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and engage in other activities requiring concentration and quick psychomotor reactions.
Contraindications
High sensitivity to the components of the drug. Sucrose/isomaltase deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption. Hypophosphatemia, marked renal dysfunction, children under 10 years of age, Alzheimer’s disease, pregnancy.
With caution: during lactation.
Side effects
Contipation, nausea, vomiting, spastic stomach pain, change in taste sensation, hypermagnesemia, hypophosphatemia, hypocalcemia, hypercalciuria, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, hyperaluminemia, encephalopathy, nephrocalcinosis, impaired renal function, allergic reactions.
In patients with concomitant renal failure – thirst, decreased blood pressure, hyporeflexia.
Overdose
Symptoms: Renal stone formation, severe constipation, drowsiness, hypermagnesemia. There may also be signs of metabolic alkalosis: changes in mood, numbness or pain in muscles, nervousness and rapid fatigue, unpleasant taste sensations.
Treatment: Immediate steps should be taken to quickly eliminate the drug: flush the stomach, induce vomiting, take activated charcoal.
Pregnancy use
It is contraindicated during pregnancy. Use with caution during lactation.
