Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The mechanism of action of the drug is associated with its ability to regulate the functional and metabolic activity of cells of innate and adaptive immunity (monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, natural killers, etc.). Galavit normalizes phagocytic activity of monocytes/macrophages, bactericidal activity of neutrophils and cytotoxic activity of NK-cells. At the same time restoring the reduced activity of innate and adaptive immunity cells, the preparation increases resistance of the organism to infectious diseases.
Besides, Galavit normalizes antibody formation, indirectly stimulates production of endogenous interferons (IFN-α, IFN-γ), increases functional activity (affinity) of antibodies.
In inflammatory diseases the preparation reversibly inhibits excessive synthesis of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1, interleukin-6 and other pro-inflammatory cytokines for 6-8 hours. Their level determines the degree of inflammatory reactions, their cyclic pattern as well as severity of intoxication.
Galavit decreases production of reactive oxygen species by hyperactivated macrophages, thereby reducing the level of oxidative stress and protecting tissues and organs from the damaging effects of radicals.
Normalization of excessively high functional activity of phagocytic cells leads to the restoration of their antigen-presenting and regulatory function, reducing the level of autoaggression.
The drug has no allergic, mutagenic, embryotoxic, teratogenic and carcinogenic action.
Pharmacokinetics
It is eliminated from the body mainly through the kidneys. After intramuscular injection half-life is 30-40 minutes. The main pharmacological effects are observed within 72 hours.

Indications

Hepatitis, Otitis, Sore throat, Tonsillitis, Boils, Bronchitis, Alcoholism, Diarrhea, Urinary tract infections, Inflammation in the mouth, Periodontitis, Herpes, Gastric and duodenal ulcers, Colds As immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of immunodeficiency disorders in adults and adolescents from 12 years:
– infectious and inflammatory urogenital diseases (urethritis of chlamydial and trichomonadic etiology, chlamydial prostatitis, acute and chronic salpingo-oophoritis, endometritis);
– purulent inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs;
– Chronic relapsing diseases caused by the herpes virus;
– Diseases caused by the human papilloma virus;
– Post-operative rehabilitation of the patients with uterine myoma;
– Complications of the post-operative period in women of reproductive age. –
– Post-surgical septic complications and their prevention (including cancer patients);
– Chronic recurrent furunculosis, rust;
– Inflammatory diseases of the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat, periodontal diseases;
– Gastric and duodenal ulcer;
– viral hepatitis;
– asthenic conditions, neurotic and somatoform disorders, reduced physical performance (including athletes); mental, behavioral and postabstinence disorders with alcohol and drug addiction.
In adults and adolescents aged 12 and over in monotherapy:
– Chronic urogenital infections, including during immunorehabilitation measures in the relapse period in order to maintain clinical remission;
– Acute and chronic infectious and inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract accompanied by intoxication and/or diarrhea.
As an immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory agent in the complex therapy of immunodeficiency in children over 6 years:
– frequent recurrent respiratory diseases and ENT-organ diseases of bacterial and viral etiology (frequent acute respiratory infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, chronic tonsillitis, chronic otitis, chronic adenoiditis).
– purulent surgical diseases (burn lesions, recurrent furunculosis, chronic osteomyelitis, gangrenous appendicitis with omentitis, peritonitis, purulent pleurisy).

Composition

Active ingredient: aminodihydrophthalazindione sodium – 100 mg.

How to take, the dosage

Intramuscularly. Before injection the drug is diluted in 2 ml of water for injection or 0.9% sodium chloride solution. The solution obtained by dilution must not be stored. Methods of administration, doses, duration of administration and number of subsequent courses of therapy shall be determined by a physician depending on the diagnosis, severity of the disease and age of the patient.
In adults and adolescents aged 12 and over in complex therapy:
– In urogenital diseases – urethritis of chlamydial and trichomonadic aetiology, chlamydial prostatitis: 100 mg twice a day, then 100 mg a day. The course of 10-15 injections (depending on the severity of the pathological process).
– In salpingo-oophoritis, endometritis in the acute period: 2 days 200 mg once a day, then 100 mg at an interval of 72 hours, the duration of use depends on the severity of the disease. Total for the course of 20 injections. In the chronic period: 5 days of 100 mg once a day, then 100 mg every 72 hours. The course is 20 injections.
– in acute and chronic purulent pelvic diseases: in the acute period – 1 day 200 mg once a day, 3 days 100 mg daily, then 100 mg every other day for 5 injections. The course of 10 injections. In the chronic period: 5 days with 100 mg once a day, then 100 mg every 72 hours. The course of 20 injections.
– in chronic recurrent diseases caused by the herpes virus: 100 mg daily for 5 injections, then 100 mg every other day for 15 injections.
– in diseases caused by the papilloma virus: 100 mg once a day for 5 days and then 100 mg in 15 injections once a day. The course of 20 injections.
– for postoperative rehabilitation of patients with uterine myoma and in case of complications during the postoperative period in women of childbearing age: 5 days 100 mg once a day, then 100 mg once a day.
– for prevention and treatment of postoperative infectious complications during pre- and postoperative periods (including in cancer patients): 100 mg once a day 5 injections before the operation, 5 injections after the operation for 100 mg daily and 5 injections for 100 mg at 72-hour intervals. In a severe course of the disease, the initial dose is 200 mg once or twice a day 100 mg. The course of 20 injections.
– In chronic recurrent furunculosis, rust: 100 mg once a day for 5 days and then 100 mg every other day. The course of treatment will be 20 injections.
– In inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and throat mucosa, periodontal diseases: The initial dose is 100 mg daily in 5 injections and then 100 mg every 72 hours. The course of 15 injections.
– for gastric and duodenal ulcer in the acute period: 2 days 200 mg once a day, then 100 mg at 72-hour intervals. The course of 15-25 injections. In the chronic period: 5 days of 100 mg once daily, then 100 mg at 72-hour intervals. The course of 20 injections.
– In viral hepatitis: the initial dose is 200 mg once and then 100 mg 2 times a day until relief of symptoms of intoxication and inflammation. Subsequent continuation of the course is 100 mg at intervals of 72 hours. The course of the preparation is 20-25 injections.
– in asthenic conditions, neurotic and somatoform disorders, in mental, behavioral and postabstinence disorders, in patients with alcohol and drug addiction: 5 days in 100 mg daily, then in 100 mg every 72 hours. The course of 15-20 injections. For increase of physical performance capacity: 100 mg daily in 5 injections, then 100 mg in 72 hours, the course of up to 20 injections.
In adults and adolescents aged 12+ in monotherapy:
– Chronic urogenital infections, including immunorehabilitation measures between relapses in order to maintain clinical remission: 100 mg daily in 10 injections.
– Acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract accompanied by intoxication and/or diarrhea: 200 mg once and then 100 mg two times a day until relief of intoxication symptoms. It is possible to continue a further course of 100 mg at 72-hour intervals. The course of 20-25 injections.

In children over 6 years old:
– in case of frequent recurrent respiratory tract and ENT diseases of bacterial and viral etiology (frequent acute respiratory viral infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, chronic tonsillitis, chronic otitis media, chronic adenoiditis): children from 6 to 11 years old by one injection of 50 mg daily for 5 days, then by 50 mg once a day every other day for 10 to 15 days. The course of 10-15 injections. Children aged 12-18 years old are treated according to the same scheme in the form of intramuscular injections of 100 mg.
– in purulent surgical diseases (burn injuries, recurrent furunculosis, chronic osteomyelitis, gangrenous appendicitis with omentitis, peritonitis, purulent pleurisy): for children aged 6 to 11 years old – one injection of 50 mg daily for 5 days, then one injection of 50 mg daily for 10-15 days. The course of 10-15 injections; children aged 12-18 years old are treated according to the same scheme in the form of intramuscular injections of 100 mg. External application of Galavit in the form of bandages with sterile napkins soaked in 1% solution of the drug in water for injections (in boltushka bandages or water-soluble ointment dressings) is recommended.
If after treatment no improvement or aggravation of symptoms or appearance of new symptoms occurs, consult a physician. Use the drug only according to the indications, the method of application and in the doses specified in the instructions for use.

Interaction

With concomitant use it is possible to reduce the course doses of antibiotics. Cases of incompatibility with other drugs have not been reported.

Special Instructions

In case of skipping the next dose of the drug, its subsequent use should be carried out as usual, as indicated in this manual or recommended by the doctor.
Effect on the ability to drive vehicles, machinery
The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles, operating machinery and other activities requiring high levels of concentration and psychomotor reactions.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to sodium aminodihydrophthalazindione, pregnancy and breastfeeding, children under 6 years of age.

Side effects

Allergic reactions are possible in rare cases.
If the patient has adverse reactions specified in the instructions or they worsen, or if the patient notes any other adverse reactions not specified in the instructions, the patient should inform the doctor.

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been reported.

Pregnancy use

The drug is contraindicated in pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
