It has bacteriostatic action against microbes. Mechanism of action is disruption of activity of some enzyme systems in bacteria.

Spectrum of action: gram-positive cocci (Streptococcus, Staphylococcus), gram-negative bacilli (Escherichia, Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus, Klebsiella, Enterobacter), protozoa (Lamblia).

The most sensitive pathogens of intestinal infections are dysentery, typhoid and paratyphoid pathogens. Resistance develops slowly.
