Interaction

The clearance of drugs metabolized with cytochrome P450 (e.g., cyclosporine, terfenadine, tolbutamide, triazolam, oral contraceptives) is practically unaffected.

. Inhibits CYP2D6 isoenzyme and interferes with the metabolism of drugs such as tricyclic antidepressants and selective serotonin takeover blockers (e.g., desipramine, fluvoxamine), Beta-adrenoblockers (metoprolol, propranolol), antiarrhythmic drugs (flecainide, propafenone), MAO-B inhibitors (e.g. selegiline) and antipsychotics (e.g. chlorpromazine, haloperidol).

CYP450 enzyme-inducing drugs (e.g., rifampicin) may accelerate excretion of terbinafine.

The CYP450 inhibitor drugs (e.g. cimetidine) may slow down the metabolism and excretion of terbinafine.

The dose of terbinafine may need to be adjusted if these drugs are used concomitantly.

The menstrual cycle may be disrupted if terbinafine and oral contraceptives are used at the same time.

Limits caffeine clearance by 21% and prolongs its half-life by 31%.

It does not affect the clearance of antipyrine, digoxin, warfarin.

Ethanol and other hepatotoxic agents increase the risk of hepatotoxic effects.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, pain in the lower abdomen, epigastric region.

Treatment: gastric lavage followed by administration of activated charcoal and/or symptomatic therapy.
