Indications

Mycoses caused by microorganisms sensitive to terbinafine:
Onychomycosis caused by dermatophyte fungi.
Mycoses of the scalp.
Fungal skin infections – treatment of dermatomycosis of the trunk, legs, feet, as well as yeast infections of the skin caused by fungi of the genus Candida (for example, Candida albicans) – in cases where the location, severity or extent of the infection determine the advisability of oral therapy.
Note: Unlike Exifin® for topical use, Exifin® for oral administration is not effective for lichen versicolor.

Pregnancy

Data from experimental studies do not give reason to assume the presence of adverse events in relation to toxic effects on the fetus.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to terbinafine or to any other component of the drug.
Chronic or active liver disease.

Side Effects

Exifin® is generally well tolerated.

Interaction

It has virtually no effect on the clearance of drugs metabolized with the participation of cytochrome P450 (for example, cyclosporine, terfenadine, tolbutamide, triazolam, oral contraceptives).

Inhibits the CYP2D6 isoenzyme and interferes with the metabolism of drugs such as tricyclic antidepressants and selective serotonin uptake blockers (for example, desipramine, fluvoxamine), beta-blockers (metoprolol, propranolol), antiarrhythmics (flecainide, propafenone), MAO-B inhibitors (for example, selegiline) and antipsychotics (for example, chlorpromazine, haloperidol) agents.

Drugs that induce CYP450 enzymes (such as rifampicin) may accelerate the elimination of terbinafine from the body.

Medicines that inhibit CYP450 (such as cimetidine) may slow the metabolism and elimination of terbinafine from the body.

If these drugs are used concomitantly, a dose adjustment of terbinafine may be required.

Menstrual irregularities are possible when taking terbinafine and oral contraceptives simultaneously.

Reduces caffeine clearance by 21% and prolongs its half-life by 31%.

Does not affect the clearance of antipyrine, digoxin, warfarin.

Ethanol and other hepatotoxic agents increase the risk of hepatotoxicity.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, pain in the lower abdomen, in the epigastric region.

Treatment: gastric lavage followed by the administration of activated charcoal and/or symptomatic therapy.
