Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics.

The active ingredient simethicone, reduces the amount of gas in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT): Has surface-active properties and the ability to reduce the surface tension at the liquid/gas interface, which promotes the coalescence of gas bubbles and the destruction of foam in the intestine, whereby the released gas is absorbed or excreted naturally under the influence of intestinal peristalsis. The use of simmentikon in preparation for diagnostic examinations of the abdominal cavity is aimed at preventing image defects caused by gas bubbles.

Pharmacokinetics

Simethicone is chemically inert and after oral administration is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and acts only in its lumen. It does not interact with microorganisms and enzymes and does not affect digestive processes. It is excreted by the intestine unchanged.

Composition

1 ml (25 drops) of the drug contains:

Active ingredient: simethicone – 100.00 mg

Associates: macrogoal stearate 40, glyceryl monostearate 40-55, carbomer, banana flavoring, potassium acesulfame, liquid sorbitol (noncrystallizing), sodium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium hydroxide, sorbic acid, purified water.

*Simethicone consists of dimethicone (polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)) and silicon dioxide in the ratio 96:4.

How to take, the dosage

Ingestion. The bottle with the emulsion should be shaken before use. The drug is dosed in drops, holding the bottle vertically with the opening down. For convenience, it is also possible to dose in milliliters using a measuring cap.

The 25 drops are equivalent to 1 ml (or 100 mg of simethicone).

The product is taken before/with or after each meal and, if necessary, before going to bed.

The number of times and the duration of use depend on the severity of symptoms.
If necessary, Espumisan® baby can be taken for a long time.

Espumisan® baby should be taken under medical supervision after surgical interventions.

For complaints related to infant colic and excessive gas
Children under 1 year of age: 5-10 drops of Espumisan® baby (added to a bottle of baby food or given with a small spoon before/after feeding).
Children from 1 to 6 years of age: 10 drops of Espumisan® baby 3-5 times a day.
Children 6-14 years old: 10-20 drops of Espumisan® baby 3-5 times a day.
Children over 14 and adults: 20 drops of Espumisan® baby 3-5 times a day.

In preparation for diagnostic tests (X-rays, ultrasound, etc.).
Espumisan® baby 1 ml 3 times a day after the meal on the day before the test and 1 ml of Espumisan® baby in the morning of the day of testing.

For a double contrast image
Add 2-4 ml of Espumisan® baby per 1 liter of contrast suspension.

In preparation for esophagogastroduodenoscopy
Take 2-3 ml of Espumisan® baby by mouth before the examination. During endoscopy, if necessary, a few milliliters of the emulsion can be injected through the endoscopic channel to eliminate gas bubbles which interfere with the examination.

In acute poisoning with detergents containing tensides
Children: 1-4 ml of Espumisan® baby; for adults, 4-8 ml of Espumisan® baby prescribed by a physician depending on the severity of the poisoning.

Interaction

Special Instructions

If gastrointestinal symptoms persist for a long time (more than 14 days of therapy) or if new symptoms arise, a medical examination is necessary.

Espumisan® baby contains sorbitol (sorbitol), therefore its use in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance is contraindicated.
Information for diabetic patients: 1 ml of the emulsion (25 drops) contains 199.17 mg of sorbitol, which corresponds to 0.017 bread units (BE).

Impact of the drug on the ability to drive vehicles, mechanisms

The use of the drug does not affect the ability to perform potentially hazardous activities requiring increased concentration and rapid psychomotor reactions (driving vehicles, operating moving machinery, work of dispatcher, operator).
