Indications

– excessive formation and accumulation of gases in the gastrointestinal tract (flatulence, Roemheld syndrome, aerophagia, increased gas formation in the postoperative period);

– preparation for diagnostic studies of the abdominal and pelvic organs (ultrasound, x-ray studies, etc.);

– symptoms of excessive gas formation caused by functional dyspepsia;

– acute poisoning from detergents containing foaming agents (as an antifoam agent).

Pharmacological action

Pharmacodynamics

Espumisan is a drug that reduces the amount of gas in the intestines. The active ingredient, simethicone, has surface activity and the ability to reduce surface tension at the liquid/gas interface. In this case, the gas bubbles merge and the foam is destroyed, as a result of which the released gas is able to be absorbed and excreted naturally under the influence of intestinal peristalsis. The use of Espumisan® in preparation for diagnostic studies prevents the occurrence of image defects caused by gas bubbles.

Pharmacokinetics

Simethicone is chemically inert, after oral administration it is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and acts only in its lumen. Does not affect enzymes and microorganisms present in the gastrointestinal tract. Output unchanged.

Special instructions

In people with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug (methyl parahydroxybenzoate and sunset yellow dye (E 110)), immediate-type hypersensitivity reactions, as well as delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions, may occur. If any allergic reactions occur, you should stop taking the drug immediately and consult a doctor.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery

The drug Espumisan does not affect the speed of psychomotor reactions and the ability to perceive or assess a situation.

One capsule contains:

Active ingredient: simethicone – 40.0 mg

Excipients: gelatin – 22.47 mg, glycerol 85% – 9.67 mg, methyl parahydroxybenzoate – 0.28 mg, quinoline yellow dye, E 104 – 0.10 mg, sunset yellow dye, E 110 – 0.0024 mg.

Pregnancy

Espumisan can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Contraindications

– hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;

– intestinal obstruction;

– children under 18 years of age.

Side Effects

No side effects were observed when taking Espumisan.
It is possible to develop allergic reactions to the auxiliary components of the drug.

Interaction

No clinically significant interaction of Espumisan with other drugs has been established.

Overdose

An overdose of Espumisan is unlikely due to the chemical and physiological inertness of the drug.
