Like other nitrofurans it blocks some redox enzyme reactions in the cells of microorganisms.

When used in therapeutic doses it has bacteriostatic effect, in high doses – bactericidal. It is active against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Clostridium) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Klebsiela, Enterobacter, Vibrio cholerae etc.) microorganisms.

He does not affect saprophytic flora (does not cause dysbacteriosis). Bacterial strains do not develop resistance to the drug.

Indications

Acute bacterial diarrhea.

Active ingredient

Composition

1 capsule contains nifuroxazide 200 mg;

excipients:

sucrose 72 mg,

magnesium stearate 1.8 mg,

Corn starch 88 mg;

Capsule shell composition:

gelatin,

titanium dioxide,

iron oxide yellow,

water.

How to take, the dosage

Ersefuryl is taken orally, in adults, 1 capsule (200 mg) 4 times a day (800 mg).

In children over 6 years of age – 200 mg 3 times a day (600 mg).

The duration of treatment is not more than 7 days.

Interaction

Entake of ethanol may cause symptoms of hypersensitivity.

It is not recommended to take the drug in combination with drugs that lead to reactions such as withdrawal syndrome or antidepressants.

Special Instructions

If necessary, rehydration should be carried out.

The amount of fluid administered and the method of administration (oral, intravenous) should be consistent with the severity of diarrhea, age and clinical condition of the patient.

In case of infectious diarrhea with clinical symptoms suggestive of an invasive event, systemic antibiotic therapy is necessary.

Due to the presence of sucrose in the drug, it should not be prescribed if fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrose-isomaltase deficiency are present.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity (including to other nitrofuran derivatives); children under 6 years of age.

Side effects

Allergic reactions such as skin rashes, urticaria, Quincke’s edema, or anaphylactic shock are extremely rare.

Pregnancy use

The use of the drug in pregnancy is possible only when the estimated benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

Pregnant women can be prescribed.
