Interaction

When concomitant administration of Enam with NSAIDs, the hypotensive effect of enalapril may decrease;

with potassium-saving diuretics (spironolactone, triamterene, amiloride) – possible development of hyperkalemia;

With lithium salts – slowing of lithium excretion (monitoring of lithium concentration in blood plasma is indicated.)
Ethanol increases the hypotensive effect of the drug.

In concomitant use with antipyretic and analgesic drugs it is possible to decrease the effectiveness of Enam.

Enalapril weakens the effect of drugs containing theophylline. Cimetidine prolongs the effect of enalapril.
Simultaneous use with diuretics, beta-adrenoblockers, methyldopa, nitrates, calcium channel blockers, hydralazine, prazosin increases the hypotensive effect of enalapril.

The use of Enam together with anesthetics with antihypertensive effect

may cause arterial hypotension.

Side effects

Overdose

Symptoms: arterial hypotension.
Treatment: the patient should lie down, elevate the legs.

In mild cases of overdose the patient is prescribed oral saline.

In more serious cases, measures aimed at stabilizing the BP are taken in hospital, physiological solution or plasma substitutes are administered intravenously.

Hemodialysis may be used.
