Diclofenac eye drops reduce the synthesis of substances that activate and maintain inflammation (prostaglandins) in the lesion, quickly reducing pain and inflammatory swelling. Diclofenac is superior to ibuprofen, butadione and acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) in its anti-inflammatory activity.
In the cornea and conjunctiva the active substance reaches maximum concentration 30 minutes after injection of the drug. In the systemic bloodstream Diclofenac is not detected in significant concentrations. It penetrates into the anterior chamber of the eye.
Indications
Diclofenac eye drops are indicated for the treatment of inflammatory processes of non-infectious nature (conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, corneal erosions, conjunctival and corneal inflammations after injuries, photophobia after corneal surgery), for the treatment and prevention of post-traumatic inflammations after eyeball injuries (penetrating and non-penetrating) as a supplement to antibacterial drugs.
The drug is effective in preventing miosis (pupil constriction) during surgical procedures for cataract, as well as in inflammatory processes after surgery, for the prevention and treatment of cystic edema of the central part of the retina (macula) after surgical removal of cataract.
