Diclofenac eye drops reduce the synthesis of substances that activate and maintain inflammation (prostaglandins) in the lesion, quickly reducing pain and inflammatory swelling. Diclofenac is superior to ibuprofen, butadione and acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) in its anti-inflammatory activity.
In the cornea and conjunctiva the active substance reaches maximum concentration 30 minutes after injection of the drug. In the systemic bloodstream Diclofenac is not detected in significant concentrations. It penetrates into the anterior chamber of the eye.
Indications
Diclofenac eye drops are prescribed for the treatment of inflammatory processes of a non-infectious nature (conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, corneal erosions, inflammation of the conjunctiva and cornea after injury, photophobia after corneal surgery), for the treatment and prevention of post-traumatic inflammation after wounds of the eyeball (penetrating and non-penetrating) as an addition to antibacterial drugs.
The drug is effective for preventing miosis (constriction of the pupil) during cataract surgery, as well as for inflammatory processes after surgery, for the prevention and treatment of cystoid edema of the central part of the retina (macula) after surgical removal of cataracts.
