Corvalol has sedative, antispasmodic, vasodilator effect.
Pharmacodynamics
Phenobarbital has sedative and mild sleeping pills. It helps reduce CNS agitation and facilitates the onset of natural sleep.
Ethylbromisovalerianate has a sedative and antispasmodic effect. Peppermint oil has reflex vasodilator and antispasmodic activity.
Indications
As a sedative and vasodilator:
As an antispasmodic: intestinal spasms.

Composition
100 ml of drops for oral administration contain:

Ethyl ester of alpha-bromisovaleric acid 2 g,
phenobarbital 1.826 g,
Ethyl alcohol 95% 79 ml,
accompaniments:
Sodium caustic;
Peppermint oil;
purified water
How to take, the dosage
Internal. The dosage is set individually. Adults are usually prescribed 15-30 drops 3 times a day before meals. In case of tachycardia single dose may be increased up to 40-50 drops. Children are prescribed 3-15 drops per day depending on the age and clinical picture of the disease.
Adults are usually prescribed 1-2 tablets 2 times a day. In case of tachycardia, the single dose may be increased to 3 tablets. The maximum daily dose is 6 tablets.
The duration of use is determined by the physician individually.
Interaction
Drugs depressing CNS increase the effect of the drug.
Phenobarbital (microsomal oxidation inducer) may decrease the effectiveness of drugs metabolized in the liver (including coumarin derivatives, griseofulvin, glucocorticosteroids, oral contraceptives); it increases the effect of local anesthetic, analgesic and hypnotic agents. The drug increases the toxicity of methotrexate.
The action of the drug increases with the use of valproic acid.
Limits the effect of glucocorticosteroids and hormonal contraceptives.
Special Instructions
The drug contains 79 vol.% ethanol and phenobarbital, therefore patients taking Corvalol are not recommended to engage in activities involving increased attention and requiring rapid mental and motor reactions.
Long-term use of the drug may lead to addiction; bromine may accumulate in the body and become toxic.
If any side effects (unusual) occur, it is necessary to tell the attending physician.
Alcohol should not be consumed during the use of the drug.
It is recommended to refrain from potentially hazardous activities requiring increased concentration and quick psychomotor reactions (including driving and operating complex machinery).
Contraindications
Side effects
In prolonged use in high doses, chronic bromine poisoning may develop, the manifestations of which are: depressed mood, apathy, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, hemorrhagic diathesis, impaired coordination.
Overdose
Symptoms: CNS depression, nystagmus, ataxia, decreased blood pressure, agitation, dizziness, weakness, chronic bromine intoxication (depression, apathy, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, hemorrhagic diathesis, movement coordination disorders).
The treatment: discontinuation of the drug, gastric lavage and symptomatic therapy, with CNS depression – caffeine, nikethamide.
