Chloramphenicol is a broad spectrum antibiotic, inhibits protein synthesis of susceptible microorganisms; active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, Mycoplasma spp, Rickettsia spp., Chlamydia spp.; not active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, fungi.
Tetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis of bacteria at RNA level and has bacteriostatic action. It is active against Gram-negative bacteria, Chlamydia spp., Mycoplasma spp., Rickettsia spp., Entamoeba histolytica. Resistance of microorganisms develops slowly.< /p>
Sodium colistimethate is an antibiotic that is isolated from Bacillus polymixa, var. colistinus. It has a bactericidal effect on most gram-negative bacteria (including Pseudomonas spp., Haemophilus spp.); active against fungi. There is no cross-resistance with broad-spectrum antibiotics with which colistimethate sodium shows synergism.< /p>
Indications
As part of complex therapy:
bacterial blepharitis;
blepharoconjunctivitis;
bacterial conjunctivitis (catarrhal, purulent);
chlamydial conjunctivitis;
bacterial keratitis;
purulent corneal ulcer;
dacryocystitis.

Special instructions
Because Rare cases of bone marrow hypoplasia have been reported due to long-term topical use of chloramphenicol, the drug is recommended to be prescribed for a short period of time and under the control of peripheral blood patterns.
With prolonged use, resistance of the pathogen develops.
During treatment, it is necessary to monitor intraocular pressure.
It is not recommended to wear contact lenses while using the drug.
When using Colbiocin ophthalmic ointment with other ophthalmic agents, the interval between use of the drugs should be 5-10 minutes

Composition
Eye ointment in the form of a soft mass of light yellow color.

tetracycline 0.5 g
chloramphenicol 1 g
colistimethate sodium 18,000,000 IU
Excipients: anhydrous lanolin – 15 g, liquid paraffin – 15 g, soft white paraffin – up to 100 g.
Pregnancy
The drug is contraindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
Use in children
The drug is contraindicated in children under 8 years of age.
Contraindications
individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
dysfunction of the liver, kidneys;
pregnancy;
lactation period;
children’s age (up to 8 years).
Side Effects
Local reactions: transient blurred vision, local irritation (short-term conjunctival hyperemia).
Cases of hypersensitivity symptoms such as burning, angioedema, urticaria, bullous and maculopapular dermatitis have been reported. The appearance of the above symptoms requires stopping the use of the drug and prescribing therapy.
Interaction
Drug interactions between Colbiocin and other topical medications have not been described.
Overdose
There is no information about drug overdose.
Recommendations for use
A strip of ointment 1-1.5 cm long is placed behind the lower eyelid of the affected eye 3-4 times a day. If the use of eye ointment is combined with the use of Colbiocin in the form of eye drops, then using the ointment once a day at night is sufficient. To administer the ointment, carefully pull the lower eyelid down and, lightly pressing the tube, insert a strip of ointment into the conjunctival sac. Then slowly lower the eyelid and press it with a cotton swab or cotton swab for 1-2 minutes. After this, you should close your eyes for 1-2 minutes.
The duration of treatment is 7-8 days. In case of severe conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, keratitis, dacryocyst, as well as purulent corneal ulcer, the duration of treatment can be up to 14 days.
Storage conditions
The drug should be stored out of the reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
Shelf life
3 years. Do not use the drug after the expiration date indicated on the package.
After opening the package, the drug should be used within 30 days.
