Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Zinc pyrithione has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal activity. Antibacterial activity of zinc pyrithione is shown against a number of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus spp.).

Zinc pyrithione reduces intracellular ATP level, promotes depolarization of cell membranes, causing death of fungi and bacteria. Antifungal activity is especially pronounced when acting on Pityrosporum ovale and Pityrosporum orbiculare, which cause inflammation and excessive flaking in dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis and other skin diseases. The mechanism of anti-inflammatory action is not studied.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied externally, zinc pyrithione is deposited in the epidermis and superficial layers of the dermis. Systemic absorption is insignificant. The drug is detected in the blood in trace amounts.

Composition

Active ingredient:

• Zinc pyrithione (in terms of 100% substance) – 0.100 g;

excipients:

• sodium lauryl sulfate – 0.050 g,
• isopropyl myristate – 33.500 g,
• silica colloidal dioxide (aerosil) – 0,750 g,
• dexpanthenol (D-Panthenol) – 0,300g,
• polysorbate-80 (tween-80) – 0,250g,
• Ethanol 70% (70% ethanol) – 15,050 g,
• tetrafluoroethane (chladone 134a) – up to 58,000 g.

How to take, the dosage

The drug is intended for external use.

The drug is used in adults and children from 1 year old.

Shake the bottle before use. Spray the product onto the affected area of skin from a distance of about 15 cm for 3 seconds covering an area equal to the palm of the hand (which is equivalent to 1 ml of the product). The affected area is treated 2-3 times a day until clinical effect is achieved.

An additional nozzle is attached to treat the scalp with the drug. It is advisable to continue using the product for one week after the symptoms have disappeared.

Length of treatment at:

• Psoriasis 1-1.5 months, repeated courses – when signs of exacerbation appear;
• atopic dermatitis 3-4 weeks;
• seborrheic dermatitis 2 weeks.

Special Instructions

Hold the can vertically when spraying.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, children under 1 year.

Side effects

The drug is usually well tolerated. Allergic reactions have occasionally been reported.
