Carniten is a drug for the correction of metabolic processes.

L-carnitine is a natural substance related to B vitamins. It participates in metabolic processes as a carrier of fatty acids through cell membranes from the cytoplasm to mitochondria, where these acids undergo a process of b-oxidation with the formation of large amounts of metabolic energy (in the form of ATP).

The drug normalizes protein and fat metabolism, restores alkaline blood reserve, inhibits ketoacid formation and anaerobic glycolysis, decreases lactacidosis, increases motor activity and tolerance of physical activity while promoting sparing glycogen utilization and increasing its reserves in the liver.

Indications

– primary and secondary L-carnitine deficiency;
– secondary L-carnitine deficiency resulting from dialysis;
– myocardial metabolic disorders in CHD (angina, postinfarction state).

Prescribing Karniten to patients with diabetes mellitus may lead to hypoglycemia due to improved glucose absorption.

In this regard, blood glucose levels should be monitored regularly while taking the drug and the dose of hypoglycemic drugs and insulin should be adjusted if necessary.

There have been no cases of addiction or metabolic dependence.
