How to take, the dosage

Bromhexin is taken orally regardless of meals.

Adults and children over 14 years of age are prescribed 8-16 mg (10-20 ml) 3-4 times a day.

Children under 2 years of age 2 mg (2.5 ml) 3 times a day, 2 to 6 years of age 4 mg (5 ml) 3 times a day, 6 to 14 years of age 8 mg (10 ml) 3 times a day.

For precise dosing, depending on the package available, use the measuring spoon or syringe included in the package.

If a measuring syringe is used: 1. Open the lid of the bottle. 2. 2. Insert the syringe measure firmly into the adaptor port on the neck of the bottle. 3. 3. Turn the bottle upside down and gently pull the plunger downward, drawing syrup into the syringe until it reaches the desired level. 4. 4. Return the vial to its original position and remove the syringe by gently turning it. 5. Give the medicine to the child by means of the measuring syringe. Slowly squeeze the plunger to give a smooth flow of syrup into the mouth.

Rinse the syringe with running water after each use and dry it flat in a room temperature out of the reach of your child.

The syringe should be stored in the package with the medication.

Patients with renal impairment get smaller doses or longer intervals between doses.

Interaction

Bromhexin may be administered simultaneously with other drugs used in the treatment of bronchopulmonary diseases.

When Bromhexin is used in combination with cough suppressants (including those containing codeine), there may be a risk of congestion due to weakening of the cough reflex.

Bromhexin promotes penetration of antibiotics (erythromycin, cephalexin, oxytetracycline, ampicillin, amoxicillin) into lung tissue.

Special Instructions

In case of peptic ulcer disease, as well as in case of a history of gastric bleeding, bromhexin should be used under medical supervision.

With caution, use in patients with bronchial asthma.

Bromhexin should not be used at the same time as medications containing codeine, because this makes it difficult to expectorate the liquefied sputum.

Bromhexin is used in combination products of herbal medicine with essential oils (including eucalyptus oil, anise oil, peppermint oil, menthol).

Contraindications

• High sensitivity to the components of the drug.
• Hereditary intolerance to fructose.
• Pregnancy (1st trimester).
• Lactation period.
• Penal ulcer (acute stage).

With caution: renal and/or hepatic failure, bronchial diseases accompanied with excessive secretion, gastric bleeding in the history.

Side effects

Digestive system disorders: dyspeptic phenomena, transient increase in liver serum transaminase activity.

CNS disorders: headache, dizziness.

Dermatological reactions: increased sweating, skin rash.

Respiratory system: cough, bronchospasm.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspeptic disorders.

Treatment: artificial vomiting, gastric lavage (in the first 1-2 hours after ingestion).

Pregnancy use

In pregnancy and lactation bromhexin is used in cases where the estimated benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus or child.
