The expectorant effect of the chest elixir is due to the action of its constituents.

– Licorice root extract has some anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties associated with the content of glycyrrhizin in the roots, stimulating the activity of the ciliary epithelium in the trachea and bronchi, and enhancing the secretory function of the mucous membranes of the upper airways;

– Anise oil has expectorant action due to the content of anetol in the oil, which contributes to reflex stimulation of respiration, increased activity of the ciliated airway epithelium and increased secretion of mucous membranes of the larynx, trachea and bronchi;

– Ammonia has an irritant effect, which leads to excitation of sensory nerve endings of the upper respiratory tract and reflex stimulation of the respiratory center.

How to take, the dosage

Ingestion, 3-4 times a day. Adults – 20-40 drops, children are prescribed as many drops as the age of the child. Before use it should be diluted in a small amount of water.

The course of treatment is 7-10 days. It is possible to increase the duration and conduct repeated courses of treatment upon the recommendation of the doctor.

Interaction

If necessary, it can be used in combination with antibiotics and other drugs. It should not be used simultaneously with anti-cough drugs, since it makes it difficult to cough up the liquefied sputum.

Special Instructions

The drug contains 90% ethyl alcohol. The content of absolute ethyl alcohol in one drop of the drug is 0.0075 g, in maximum single dose for adults – up to 0.3 g, in maximum daily dose – up to 1.2 g.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and engage in other potentially dangerous activities. During the treatment period, caution should be exercised while driving motor transport and engaging in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and rapid psychomotor reactions.

Contraindications

Side effects

Allergic reactions may occur, and in some cases diarrhea may be observed.

Overdose

Symptoms: with long-term use in excess of the indicated dosages hypokalemia, increased BP, peripheral edema due to impaired water-salt metabolism are possible.

Treatment: symptomatic.
