Bisacodyl is a laxative.

Increases irritation of the receptor apparatus of the intestine, has a direct effect on the intestinal mucosa, increasing its perelstatics and increasing mucus secretion in the large intestine.

The effect occurs within one hour after application.

Pharmokinetics

It is not absorbed in the intestine. It is a prodrug; in an alkaline environment hydrolysis occurs with the formation of a metabolite, which has an irritating effect on the gastrointestinal mucosa.

How to take, the dosage

Bisacodyl tablets are taken orally before going to bed, regardless of the time of the meal.

The tablet should be swallowed without chewing!

The dose for adults is 1-3 tablets (5-15 mg) at a time.

If the loosening effect is not sufficient, take an additional 1-2 tablets (5-10 mg) the next morning.

The dose for children over 6 years of age is 1 tablet (5 mg).

The swallowing of a chewed tablet causes irritation of the gastric mucosa and abdominal pain.

Interaction

Co-use with antacids may lead to premature dissolution of the enteric coating of the drug and irritation of the stomach and duodenum.

It is not recommended to take simultaneously with milk and alkaline mineral water.

Special Instructions

The drug is used with caution in pregnant and lactating women, in patients with liver and/or kidney disease, and in patients with suspected inflammatory bowel disease.

The drug should not be used for more than 7 days without special instructions from a physician.

Contraindications

Side effects

Allergic reactions are possible.

In the gastrointestinal tract spastic abdominal pain, diarrhea are possible, which may lead to dehydration of the body, electrolyte imbalance.

The use of high doses or prolonged use of bisacodyl may lead to the development of intestinal atony.

Overdose

Symptoms: diarrhea, dehydration, water-electrolyte imbalance, hypokalemia, colonic atony.

Treatment: symptomatic.

Pregnancy use

With caution during pregnancy and lactation.
