Composition

1 tablet – biperiden hydrochloride 2 mg.

How to take, the dosage

Bezac is taken orally with fluids. The drug is preferably taken simultaneously/after meals (reduces the severity of adverse reactions from the digestive system). Recommended regimen: Parkinsonism syndrome: the initial dose is 1 mg 1 or 2 times a day.

The dose can be increased daily by 2 mg. The maintenance daily dose is 3-16 mg. The maximum is 16 mg per day. The total daily dose should be distributed evenly throughout the day; extrapyramidal symptoms (as a neuroleptic treatment corrector): the initial dose is determined by the severity of the symptoms and is 1-2 mg 1-4 times per day. The single dose may be increased to 4 mg, the daily dose to 16 mg.

The duration of the course is determined individually; it depends on the etiology and severity of the disease. After completion of the course the dose should be reduced gradually (due to a high risk of withdrawal).

Interaction

Concomitant use with anticholinergic drugs may increase central and peripheral anticholinergic effects.

Concomitant use with antipsychotics (neuroleptics) increases the risk of tardive dyskinesia.

Concomitant use with biperiden increases the effect of histamine H1-receptor blockers and anticonvulsants.

Concomitant use with levodopa may increase the m-choline blocking effect and dyskinesia.

Concomitant use of biperiden decreases the effectiveness of metoclopramide.

Concomitant use with quinidine increases the risk of dyskinesia. Potentiates the effects of ethanol.

Special Instructions

With caution, use in patients with epilepsy, arrhythmia, elderly patients.

The development of drug dependence is possible.

The treatment should be stopped gradually because of the risk of withdrawal.

The safety of Biperiden in children has not been established, so it is not recommended.

Do not drink alcohol during treatment.

Impact on ability to drive and operate machinery

Persons whose activities require increased attention and quick psychomotor reactions should use with caution.

Perhaps with caution in elderly patients.

Contraindications

Closed-angle glaucoma, prostatic hyperplasia, obstructive gastrointestinal conditions (including gateway stenosis, paralytic intestinal obstruction), megacolon; hypersensitivity to biperiden.

Side effects

CNS disorders: weakness, asthenia, dizziness, stupor, anxiety, memory disturbance, confusion, hallucinations.

Visual organs: mydriasis, accommodation disorder.

Cardiovascular system: tachycardia; rarely bradycardia; in parenteral administration – decrease in BP.

Digestive system disorders: dry mouth, dyspepsia, constipation.

Metabolism: decreased sweating.

Urinary system disorders: in patients with prostatic hypertrophy – difficulty in urination.

Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching.

Pregnancy use

Biperiden can be used during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) only under strict indications.
