Betahistine is a histaminergic, improving microcirculation.
Pharmacodynamics
An agonist of H1-receptors of the inner ear vessels and an antagonist of H3-receptors of the vestibular CNS nuclei. By direct agonist effect on H1-receptors of the inner ear vessels and indirectly through the effect on H3-receptors it improves microcirculation and capillary permeability, normalizes the endolymph pressure in the labyrinth and cochlea, increases blood flow in the basilar artery.
It has a pronounced central effect, being an inhibitor of H3-receptor nuclei of the vestibular nerve. It improves conduction in neurons of vestibular nuclei at brainstem level.
The clinical manifestation of the above properties is reduction of the frequency and intensity of dizziness, reduction of tinnitus, improvement of hearing if it is reduced.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorbed rapidly, binding to plasma proteins is low. Time required to reachCmax is 3 hours.
It is almost completely excreted by the kidneys as a metabolite (2-pyridylacetic acid) within 24 hours. T1/2 is 3-4 hours.
Indications
treatment and prevention of vestibular vertigo of various origins
syndromes including dizziness and headache, tinnitus, progressive hearing loss, nausea and vomiting
Meniere’s disease or syndrome.
Pharmacological effect
Betahistine is a histaminergic that improves microcirculation.
Pharmacodynamics
An agonist of H1 receptors in the vessels of the inner ear and an antagonist of H3 receptors in the vestibular nuclei of the central nervous system. Through a direct agonistic effect on H1 receptors of the vessels of the inner ear, as well as indirectly through an effect on H3 receptors, it improves microcirculation and capillary permeability, normalizes endolymph pressure in the labyrinth and cochlea, and increases blood flow in the basilar artery.
It has a pronounced central effect, being an inhibitor of H3 receptors in the nuclei of the vestibular nerve. Improves conductivity in neurons of the vestibular nuclei at the level of the brain stem.
The clinical manifestation of these properties is a decrease in the frequency and intensity of dizziness, a decrease in tinnitus, and an improvement in hearing if it is reduced.
Pharmacokinetics
