Betahistine Canon, tablets 24 mg 20 pcs

A synthetic analog of histamine. It is a weak agonist of histamine H₁ receptors and a rather powerful antagonist of histamine H₃ receptors. It has histamine-like and vasodilatory effects. Affects the cochlear blood flow and the central vestibular system.

The actions of the drug include vasodilation in the inner ear (mediated through histamine H₃– and H₁-receptors), inhibitory effects against vestibular nuclei (via histamine H₃-receptors), and impulse activity of ampullary receptors. By direct agonist action on the histamine H₁ receptors of the inner ear vessels and the precapillary sphincters of the microcirculatory channel located in the vascular band (stria vascularis), and indirectly through the histamine H₃ receptors, improves microcirculation and permeability of inner ear capillaries, normalizes endolymph pressure in the labyrinth and cochlea, and increases blood flow in the basilar artery.

It has a pronounced central effect, being an antagonist of histamine H₃-receptors of the vestibular nerve nuclei. Normalizes conduction in polysynaptic neurons of vestibular nuclei at brainstem level. Indirectly affecting histamine H₃-receptors, increases the content of serotonin in the brainstem, which reduces the activity of vestibular nuclei.

Contributes to the elimination of disorders of both the vestibular and cochlear apparatus: reduces the frequency and intensity of vertigo, reduces tinnitus, helps improve hearing in cases of hearing loss.

Betahistine stimulates histamine H₁ receptors, so it has no sedative effect and does not cause drowsiness.

How to take, the dosage

Internal, with meals. 1/2-1 tablets 3 times a day.

Emprovement is usually seen at the beginning of therapy. Stable therapeutic effect occurs after two weeks of treatment and may increase during several months of treatment. Treatment is long. The duration of therapy is determined individually.

Interaction

Incompatibilities or incompatibilities with other medicinal products are unknown.

The therapeutic effect of the drug in some cases appears only after several months of treatment.

Gastrointestinal disorders, allergic reactions of the skin (skin rash, itching, urticaria), Quincke’s edema.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, convulsions.

Treatment: gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal, symptomatic therapy.

Pregnancy use

There are insufficient data to evaluate the effects of the drug during pregnancy and lactation. In this regard, it is contraindicated in pregnancy. Breast-feeding should be stopped during treatment.
