The drug Betadine is an antiseptic and disinfectant.
Releasing from the complex with polyvinylpyrrolidone in contact with skin and mucous membranes, iodine forms iodamines with bacterial cell proteins, coagulates them and causes death of microorganisms.
It has a bactericidal effect on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (except Mycobacterium tuberculosis).
It is active against bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa.
The suppositories are made on a water-soluble basis and have no irritating effect.
