Alpha-adrenergic stimulator.

Narrows the blood vessels of the nasal cavity mucosa eliminating swelling and hyperemia of the mucosa.

Easily eases nasal breathing in rhinitis.

The effect occurs in a few minutes and lasts for several hours.

Indications

– acute allergic rhinitis;

— acute respiratory infections with symptoms of rhinitis;

– sinusitis;

– hay fever;

– otitis media (to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa);

— preparing the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.

Pharmacological effect

Alpha adrenergic stimulator.

Constricts the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, eliminating swelling and hyperemia of the mucous membrane.

Facilitates nasal breathing during rhinitis.

The action begins within a few minutes and lasts for several hours.

Special instructions

Frequent and long-term use is not recommended for chronic diseases of the nasopharynx.

For colds, in cases where crusts form in the nose, it is preferable to administer it in the form of a gel.

Xylometazoline

Composition

Xylometazoline hydrochloride1 mg

Contraindications

– arterial hypertension;

– tachycardia;

– severe atherosclerosis;

– glaucoma;

– atrophic rhinitis;

– thyrotoxicosis;

— surgical interventions on the meninges (history);

– pregnancy;

– children’s age (up to 6 years);

– hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

With caution: lactation period, ischemic heart disease (angina), prostate hyperplasia, diabetes mellitus.

Side Effects

When used, it can cause a burning sensation in the nose and throat, local irritation, paresthesia, sneezing, hypersecretion, dryness of the nasal mucosa. Allergic reactions are possible.

Rarely – swelling of the nasal mucosa, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, headache, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, blurred vision;

depression (with long-term use in high doses).

If symptoms occur, stop using the drug and consult a doctor.

Interaction

Do not use simultaneously with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Overdose

Symptoms: in case of accidental poisoning with xylometazoline when taken orally, mydriasis, nausea, vomiting, cyanosis, fever, spasms, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmia, collapse, cardiac arrest, hypertension, pulmonary edema, respiratory disorders, mental disorders, suppression of central nervous system function, accompanied by drowsiness, decreased body temperature, bradycardia, hypotension, apnea, coma.

Treatment: gastric lavage, administration of activated carbon, and, if necessary, mechanical ventilation.

To lower blood pressure – phentolamine IV slowly at a dose of 5 mg or orally at a dose of 100 mg.

Vasopressor drugs are contraindicated.

If necessary, antipyretic and anticonvulsants are used.

Storage conditions

Store the drug at a temperature from 15°C to 25°C.
