Alpha-adrenergic stimulator.

Narrows the blood vessels of the nasal cavity mucosa eliminating swelling and hyperemia of the mucosa.

Easily eases nasal breathing in rhinitis.

The effect occurs in a few minutes and lasts for several hours.

Indications

– acute allergic rhinitis;

– acute respiratory infections with rhinitis phenomena;

– sinusitis;

– pollinosis;

– otitis media (to reduce nasopharyngeal mucosal edema);

– preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.

Xylometazoline hydrochloride1 mg

How to take, the dosage

Intranasally.

Adults and children over 6 years: 2-3 drops in each nasal passage 2-3 times a day.

Do not use more than 3 times a day.

Interaction

Do not use simultaneously with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Special Instructions

Frequent and prolonged use in chronic nasopharyngeal diseases is not recommended.

In case of colds when nasal crusts are formed, it is preferable to prescribe in the form of gel.

Contraindications

– arterial hypertension;

– tachycardia;

– marked atherosclerosis;

– glaucoma;

– atrophic rhinitis;

– thyrotoxicosis;

– brain surgery (history);

– pregnancy;

– childhood (under 6 years);

– hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

With caution: lactation, CHD (angina pectoris), prostatic hyperplasia, diabetes mellitus.

Side effects

When used, it may cause burning in the nose and throat, local irritation, paresthesias, sneezing, hypersecretion, dry nasal mucosa. Allergic reactions are possible.

Rarely – nasal mucous membrane edema, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased BP, headache, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, visual impairment;

Depression (with long-term use in high doses).

If symptoms occur, stop using the drug and see a doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms: in case of accidental poisoning with xylometazolin if ingested, mydriasis, nausea, vomiting, cyanosis, fever, spasms, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmia, collapse, cardiac arrest, hypertension, pulmonary edema, respiratory disorders, mental disorders, CNS function suppression accompanied by drowsiness, decreased body temperature, bradycardia, hypotension, apnea, coma are possible.

Treatment: gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal, if necessary, ventilation.

To lower BP, phentholamine slowly in a dose of 5 mg IV or orally in a dose of 100 mg.

Vasopressor agents are contraindicated.

Hypnotics and anticonvulsants are used if necessary.
