Ascorbic acid plays an important role in the regulation of redox processes, carbohydrate metabolism, blood clotting processes, tissue regeneration, helps increase the body’s resistance to infections.

Dextrose (glucose) participates in various processes of metabolism in the body.

ascorbic acid 100 mg,

glucose,

potato starch.

How to take, the dosage

The drug is taken orally after meals.

For preventive purposes, adults 1/2 (50 mg) to 1 (100 mg) tablet, children from 6 to 18 years of age 1/2 (50 mg) tablet daily.

For therapeutic purposes, adults 1/2 (50 mg) to 1 (100 mg) tablet 3-5 times a day, children 1/2 (50 mg) to 1 (100 mg) 2-3 times a day.

The timing of treatment depends on the nature and course of the disease.

In pregnancy and during lactation, 3 tablets a day for 10-15 days, then 1 tablet a day.

Interaction

Ascorbic acid: increases the blood concentration of benzylpenicillin and tetracyclines; at a dose of 1 g / day increases the bioavailability of ethinylestradiol (including those included in oral contraceptives).

It improves intestinal absorption of iron preparations (converts trivalent iron to divalent iron); it may increase iron excretion if used concomitantly with deferoxamine.

Drugs of quinoline series, calcium chloride, salicylates, glucocorticosteroids with prolonged use deplete ascorbic acid reserves. When used concomitantly it reduces chronotropic effect of isoprenaline. In long-term use or when used in high doses it can disrupt disulfiram-ethanol interaction.

In high doses increases excretion of mexiletine by the kidneys.

Barbiturates and primidone increase urinary excretion of ascorbic acid. Reduces the therapeutic effect of antipsychotic drugs (neuroleptics) – phenothiazine derivatives, tubal reabsorption of amphetamine and tricyclic antidepressants.

Special Instructions

Due to the stimulating effect of ascorbic acid on the synthesis of corticosteroid hormones it is necessary to monitor renal function and blood pressure.

Long-term use with high doses may suppress pancreatic insular function, so it should be regularly monitored during treatment.

In patients with elevated iron content in the body ascorbic acid should be used in minimal doses.

Prescribing ascorbic acid to patients with rapidly proliferating and intensely metastatic tumors may worsen the course of the process.

As a reducing agent, ascorbic acid can distort the results of various laboratory tests (blood glucose, bilirubin, hepatic transaminases and lactate dehydrogenase activity).

Does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and operate other mechanical means.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug. Large doses should not be prescribed in patients with increased blood clotting, thrombophlebitis and tendency to thrombosis; in diabetes mellitus and conditions accompanied by high blood glucose. Contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.

Diabetes mellitus, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency; for high-dose use, hemochromatosis, sideroblast anemia, thalassemia, hyperoxaluria, nephrourolithiasis.

Overdose

Symptoms: when using more than 1 g – headache, increased central nervous system excitability, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hyperacid gastritis, gastrointestinal mucosa ulceration, inhibition of pancreatic insular apparatus function (hyperglycemia, glucosuria), hyperoxaluria. Nephrolithiasis (from calcium oxalate), damage to the glomerular apparatus of the kidneys, moderate pollakiuria (when taking a dose of more than 600 mg/day).

Decrease capillary permeability (deterioration of tissue trophism, increased blood pressure, hypercoagulation, development of microangiopathies are possible).

In case of ingestion of a potentially toxic dose, vomiting is induced, in rare cases – gastric lavage, activated charcoal is prescribed, laxatives (such as isotonic solution of sodium sulfate).
