Urotropin has a diuretic effect, increases the permeability of cell membranes, thus accelerating the removal of toxins from the body. Urotropine in an acidic environment splits into formaldehyde and ammonia, which have an antimicrobial effect. Urotropine has a particularly strong antimicrobial effect in the acidic environment of the kidneys and urinary tract. Excretion of the drug and its metabolites with urine begins 40-60 minutes after drug administration and lasts 6-12 hours. Urotropin refers to substances of Hazard Class 4 – low-hazard substances.

Composition

Urotropine is a 40% solution of hexamethylentetramine (urotropine). The drug is a transparent colorless liquid.

How to take, the dosage

Urotropin is used as an antitoxic, antimicrobial and diuretic agent in inflammation of kidneys, bladder and urinary tract in cattle and pigs. The drug is used for intoxication and toxic infections in order to neutralize and accelerate excretion of toxins from the body. Urotropin is also used in the treatment of endometritis and mastitis with signs of intoxication in cows. The preparation is given intravenously (into an ear vein for pigs) 2 to 3 times a day in the following dosages: 1.5-2 ml per 10 kg body weight for cattle, 0.5-0.7 ml per 10 kg body weight for pigs. Duration of drug administration and dosage depend on the nature and severity of the disease. In cattle urinary tract action of urotropine is weaker due to alkaline reaction of urine. In this case it is necessary to prescribe substances shifting the urine reaction to the acid side.

Special Instructions

Slaughter of animals for meat shall be allowed not earlier than 24 hours after the last drug administration. Meat of animals slaughtered before expiry of specified period can be used to feed furbearing animals or for production of meat and bone meal. Consumption of milk for human consumption shall be allowed one day after the last drug administration. Milk obtained from cows during treatment shall be used in animal feed after boiling.
