The remedy is of herbal origin. Valerian causes a moderately pronounced sedative effect.
The action is due to the content of essential oil, most of which is the ester of borneol and isovaleric acid.
The valepotriates and the alkaloids valerine and chotenine also have sedative properties.
Valerian facilitates the onset of natural sleep. The sedative effect is slow but fairly stable.
Indications
It is used in cases of increased nervous excitability (neurasthenia) and sleep disorders.
The use according to the above prescriptions is based only on the experience of long-term use.
Active ingredient
Composition
Each tablet contains – the active ingredient:
Dense valerian extract (from rhizomes with valerian roots, the extractant – ethyl alcohol 40% (vol/vol)) – 20 mg,
auxiliary substances:
Magnesium carbonate basic,
potato starch,
talc,
gelatin,
sugar,
titanium dioxide pigment,

paraffin,
sunflower oil,
quinoline yellow E 104,
silicon dioxide colloid.
How to take, the dosage
In cases of increased nervous excitability (neurasthenia): from 20 mg to 100 mg (1-5 tablets), taken up to 6 times a day, depending on overall tolerance and achievement of sedative effect.
In sleep disorders: 20 mg to 100 mg (1 to 5 tablets) half an hour to one hour before bedtime; if necessary, prior administration of the drug (1 to 5 tablets) in the evening is recommended.
The duration of the course of treatment is determined by the doctor, taking into account the characteristics of the disease, the effect achieved and tolerance of the drug.
Persons with hepatic and/or renal dysfunction: No information available.
Pediatric use
The safety of use in children under 12 years of age has not been established. Due to lack of sufficient data, it is not recommended to prescribe to children under 12 years of age.
Interaction
Valerian tablets increase the effect of sleeping pills, anxiolytics, analgesics, sedatives. The drug can be combined with cardiotonic and hypotensive agents.
There have been no known cases of adverse drug interactions when prescribing Valerian tablets against the background of therapy with other drugs included in the common treatment regimens of cardiovascular diseases and gastro-intestinal diseases.
Special Instructions
During treatment, the ability to drive and operate various mechanisms may be impaired.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to valerian and its auxiliary components, pregnancy, lactation, children under 12 years of age.
Side effects
When using Valerian in high doses, lethargy, drowsiness, depression, weakness, and reduced performance may occur.
Overdose
Symptoms: overdose is accompanied by increased side effects of the drug, gastrointestinal discomfort, depression, drowsiness or agitation, nausea, vomiting.
Treatment: induction of vomiting, gastric lavage (not later than 2 hours after taking the drug). Symptomatic therapy.
