Tardiferon retard replenishes iron deficiency in the body, which is necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin.

Mucoproteose, a mucopolysaccharide derived from the intestinal mucosa, provides better tolerability of the drug and increases the bioavailability and gradual release of divalent iron (Fe 2+) from the drug.

Ascorbic acid improves iron absorption. After taking the drug, iron absorption occurs mainly in the distal part of the small intestine. Maximum concentration of iron ion in plasma is reached 7 hours after taking the drug and remains elevated during the day.

On average 10-20% of the administered dose is absorbed. Absorption is increased with decreased iron reserves in the body.

Indications

Treatment and prevention of iron deficiency conditions caused by:
– Pregnancy.
– Lactation.
– Impaired absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract.
– Prolonged bleeding.
– Inadequate and unbalanced nutrition.

Special instructions

Before starting iron therapy, it is necessary to study the level of serum iron and serum ferritin (i.e., document iron deficiency).

Therapy with the drug should be carried out until the blood picture normalizes (8-12 weeks). When taking the drug, there may be a dark coloration of the stool, a false-positive benzidine test.

It should be borne in mind that drinking tea in large quantities reduces the absorption of iron ions in the gastrointestinal tract. No special studies have been conducted on the use of the drug in children.

iron sulfate II sesquihydrate 256.3 mg (corresponds to 80 mg iron).

Excipients:

Shell composition:

talc, eudragit E, titanium dioxide, starch, wax, paraffin, sucrose.

Pregnancy

Pregnant women (II and III trimester of pregnancy) and lactating women are recommended to take 1 tablet every other day for preventive purposes.

Contraindications

– Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

– Diseases accompanied by the accumulation of iron in the body: aplastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, thalassemia, hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis.
– Impaired absorption of iron: sideroachrestic anemia, lead anemia, pernicious anemia (vitamin B12 deficiency), childhood (up to 6 years).

Interaction

When taking Tardiferon simultaneously with antacids, tetracycline antibiotics and penicillamine, iron absorption worsens.

With simultaneous intake of ascorbic acid, iron absorption improves. It should not be prescribed together with other iron preparations, including those for parenteral use, to avoid overdose.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

Treatment: if an overdose is suspected, it is necessary to conduct a study of serum iron content and serum ferritin levels, perform gastric lavage, administer milk and raw eggs orally to enhance the binding of iron ions in the gastrointestinal tract and their subsequent excretion.

In case of significant excess of normal serum ferritin levels, it is necessary to prescribe an iron chelator (desferal).
