A broad spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic, disrupts protein synthesis in the microbial cell (having good lipophilicity, penetrates through the cell membrane of bacteria and reversibly binds to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, where the movement of amino acids to the growing peptide chains is delayed, which leads to disruption of protein synthesis).
It is active against most strains of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms resistant to penicillin, tetracyclines, sulfonamides; it promotes cleansing and healing of burn pus wounds and trophic ulcers and accelerates epithelization.
Indications
– bacterial skin infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including. Infectious burns (superficial and limited deep)
– pressure sores
– trophic ulcers
– wounds (phase II of the wound process: the absence of pus, necrotic tissue – for liniment, devoid of osmotic activity)
– furuncles
– Cracks of teats in nursing women.
Composition
1 g of the liniment contains:
acting substances:
D,L-chloramphenicol (synthomycin) – 0.1 g.
How to take, the dosage
The liniment is used externally.
After surgical treatment of wounds and burns Syntomycin liniment is applied directly to the wound surface, after which a sterile gauze dressing is applied or Syntomycin liniment is applied to the dressing material and then to the wound.
Tabs with liniment loosely fill cavities of purulent wounds after surgical treatment, and gauze turundas with synthomycin liniment are inserted into fistulous passages.
In the treatment of wounds and burns in the 2nd phase – once every 1-3 days depending on the dynamics of wound healing.
Interaction
Barbiturates accelerate biotransformation, reduce concentration and duration of effect.
Decreases the antibacterial effect of penicillins and cephalosporins.
When concomitant use with erythromycin, clindamycin, lincomycin mutual weakening of action is noted.
Disulfiram-like reactions are possible with concomitant use of alcohol.
Special Instructions
Systematic monitoring of peripheral blood counts is required during treatment. Adverse effects on the fetus during pregnancy and breastfeeding have not been revealed.
If applied to large surfaces with simultaneous administration of ethanol, disulfiram-like reactions (skin hyperemia, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, reflex cough, seizures) may occur.
Patients taking the drug should refrain from activities requiring increased attention and quick mental and motor reactions (driving, operating precision machinery).
