An analeptic agent.

Pharm Action:

Sulfocamfocaine is a combination drug, has an analeptic effect. It stimulates respiratory and vasomotor centers of the medulla oblongata.

It has a direct effect on the myocardium, increasing its metabolic processes, improving its function and increasing its sensitivity to sympathetic impulses.

Enhances the tone of peripheral blood vessels. Improves pulmonary ventilation, pulmonary blood flow.

In connection with solubility in water, the drug is quickly absorbed when administered subcutaneously and intramuscularly.

It does not cause formation of infiltrates and complications (oleomas). It is possible to administer intravenously.

Composition

Active substances:

Sulfocamphoric acid (in terms of anhydrous) 49.6 mg,

Novocaine base (procaine) 50.4 mg;

Auxiliary substances:

water for injection to 1 ml.

How to take, the dosage

Sulfocamfocaine is administered subcutaneously, intramuscularly or intravenously by 2 ml of 10% solution (0.2 g); if necessary, the number of injections is up to 2-3 times a day.

The maximum daily dose for adults is 12 ml of 10 % solution (1.2 g). In acute cases the drug is administered intravenously (slowly trickling or dripping) in a single dose of 2 ml of 10% solution.

The duration of use is determined individually.

In chronic respiratory and cardiac failure the drug is administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly for 20-30 days.

Interaction

The use of sulfocamfocaine in combination with cardiac glycosides, steroid hormones, and analgesics increases the analeptic effect of the drug.

Special Instructions

We should be careful when administering the drug to patients with low blood pressure due to the possibility of developing the hypotensive effect of novocaine released in the body from sulfocammophocaine.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug (including novocaine).

With caution: arterial hypotension.

Side effects

When using the drug, dyspeptic disorders and allergic reactions are possible.

Possible decrease in blood pressure (especially in patients with baseline arterial hypotension).
