Antimicrobial bacteriostatic agent, sulfonamide.
The mechanism of action is due to competitive antagonism with para-aminobenzoic acid, inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase, disruption of tetrahydrofolic acid synthesis, required for purine and pyrimidine synthesis.

Pharmacokinetics
In local administration, penetrates tissues and fluids of the eye. It may penetrate into the systemic bloodstream through the inflamed conjunctiva, but due to the small amount of the drug, no systemic effect is determined.
Indications
Conjunctivitis.
Blepharitis.
Purulent ulcer of the cornea.
Prevention and treatment of blenorrhea in newborns.
Gonorrheal and chlamydial eye diseases in adults.

Special instructions
Patients with increased individual sensitivity to furosemide, thiazide diuretics, sulfonylureas or carbonhydrase inhibitors may exhibit increased sensitivity to sodium sulfacyl.
Prescribe with caution to patients with a history of allergies.

Composition
1 ml eye drops contains:
active ingredient:
sodium sulfacetamide monohydrate (sodium sulfacetamide), calculated as 100% substance 200 mg,
excipients:
sodium thiosulfate – 1 mg;
hydrochloric acid solution 1 M – to pH 8;
water for injection – up to 1 ml
Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity to sulfonamide drugs.
Side Effects
When using the drug, local tissue irritation (burning, redness, swelling, pain, lacrimation) and allergic reactions are possible.
Interaction
Combined use with novocaine and dicaine reduces the bacteriostatic effect of sodium sulfacyl.
Incompatibility of sodium sulfacyl is observed when used in combination with silver salts.
