Vitamin K, or anti-hemorrhagic vitamin, is necessary for normal blood clotting. It is used for severe bleeding, hemorrhagic diathesis (condition when the skin is covered with dark spots due to loss of blood from capillaries) and in some cases of liver function disorders.

Vitamin K is often prescribed to pregnant women for prevention, to prevent death of newborns from bleeding. Sometimes it is administered as a preventive measure to women before childbirth or surgery.

Vitamin K is necessary as a means to increase blood clotting, or more specifically, for the formation of pro-thrombin, which usually occurs in the liver if it is healthy.

Microorganisms in our bodies produce enough of this vitamin, but when liver function is impaired or when medications, especially sulfonamide or salicylic drugs, are used for a long time, this does not happen.

Vitamin K also plays an important role in bone formation and repair, provides the synthesis of osteocalcin – bone tissue protein on which calcium crystallizes. It contributes to the prevention of osteoporosis, is involved in the regulation of redox processes in the body.
