Sodium fluoride is an anti-caries prophylactic (especially in children and adolescents). Fluoride ions directly affect the process of mineralization of dental hard tissues during their development.
The additional administration of fluoride provides formation of the most stable form of apatite – fluorapatite – in dental tissues. In addition, fluoride helps to reduce cariesogenic activity of dental plaque. Inhibits formation of lactic acid from carbohydrates.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption when taken orally is 93-97%, TCmax is 4 hours. At any dose, 50% of the ingested fluoride is accumulated in dental hard tissues and bone tissue. Accumulation in organs or soft tissues is not observed. It is excreted by kidneys (fluoride is not involved in the process of bone formation).
Indications
Prevent dental caries in children from 2 to 15 years of age (if the concentration of fluoride in drinking water does not exceed 0.7 mg/’L).
Active ingredient
Composition
Active ingredient:
sodium fluoride 0.0011mg
How to take, the dosage
In children aged 2 to 6 years, 1 tablet (1.1 mg) once a day.
Children over 6 years of age – 1 tablet (2.2 mg) or 2 tablets (1.1 mg) once daily.
Interaction
Sodium fluoride absorption is reduced by antacids (prematurely dissolves the shell); antacids are recommended not earlier than 2 hours before taking sodium fluoride.
Vitamins A and D contribute to the development of ectopic calcification.
Special Instructions
The simultaneous use of Sodium fluoride with preparations containing calcium is not recommended.
The use of the drug is contraindicated in areas where the fluoride content in the water exceeds 0.8 mg/l.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, hypothyroidism, gastric and duodenal ulcer (acute stage), hepatic and/or renal failure, pregnancy, lactation.
Living in an area with sufficient water fluoridation (above 0.7 mg/mL).
Side effects
Allergic reactions (skin rash), rhinitis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, increased fatigue, headache, eosinophilia, fluorosis (appearance of yellow and brown spots, mottled, brittle and worn teeth).
Overdose
Symptoms: lacrimation, hypersalivation, nausea, decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, pain in the lower extremities, arthralgia, increased fatigue, miosis, visual disturbances, weakness, myasthenia gravis, tremors, seizures, increased body temperature, tachycardia, decreased blood pressure, respiratory failure, respiratory arrest.
Treatment: administration of large amounts of fluid and calcium (calcium gluconate or calcium lactate solution, milk) for precipitation of fluorides; gastric lavage with acidified water or 1% sodium chloride solution, administration of saline laxatives, intravenous administration of electrolytes (20 ml of 10-20% calcium gluconate solution) and vitamins; symptomatic therapy, control of calcium concentration in blood; hemodialysis.
