Antidiarrheal drug, is an aluminosilicate of natural origin.
It has an adsorptive effect.
It stabilizes the mucous barrier of the gastrointestinal tract, forms polyvalent bonds with glycoproteins of mucus, increases the amount of mucus and improves its cytoprotective properties (in relation to the negative effect of hydrogen ions of hydrochloric acid, bile salts, microorganisms and their toxins).
It has selective sorption properties due to its discoid-crystalline structure; it adsorbs bacteria and viruses in the gastrointestinal lumen.
Smecta® in therapeutic doses does not affect intestinal motility.
Diosmectite is radiopaque and does not stain the stool.
The aluminum in diosmectite is not absorbed from the GI tract, including in GI diseases accompanied by symptoms of colitis and colonopathy.
