Skinoren is a product for the treatment of acne.

Aselaic acid normalizes the disturbed processes of keratinization in the follicles of sebaceous glands, reduces the content of free fatty acids in the skin lipids and reduces the oiliness of the skin.

It has antimicrobial activity against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis.

The anti-inflammatory effect is also due to a decrease in neutrophil metabolism and the production of free-radical oxygen forms.

Aselaic acid has a dose- and time-dependent suppressive effect on the growth and viability of abnormal melanocytes.

Pharmacokinetics:

Assimilation

After application to the skin, azelaic acid is virtually not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream (no more than 3.6% in a single application of 5 g of gel or cream).

Elimination

Part of the absorbed azelaic acid is excreted unchanged by the kidneys, and part of it as dicarboxylic acids (C7, C5) formed from azelaic acid by beta-oxidation.

How to take, the dosage

The dosing regimen and duration of therapy is set individually.

The cream is applied evenly in a thin layer 2 times a day to previously cleansed (with mild cleansers and water) areas of the face and, if necessary, the neck and upper chest affected by acne.

The product should be used regularly throughout the course of treatment, the duration of which depends on the severity of the disease. The minimum duration of treatment for melasma is 3 months.

Special Instructions

Avoid getting the drug in the eyes and on the mucous membranes of the nose, lips and mouth.

In cases of severe skin irritation during the first weeks of treatment, Skinoren may be used once daily; short-term withdrawal is also possible. Once symptoms of skin irritation have disappeared, regular use should be resumed at the recommended dose.

Skinoren may be used in combination with other acne treatments. It is possible to correct the dosing regimen of simultaneously used drugs.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the drug.

Side effects

Termal reactions:

Rarely (mostly at the beginning of therapy) – skin irritation, erythema, burning sensation, itching, peeling, which go away on their own during further treatment; after applying the cream on the face a burning and tingling sensation may occur, which subsides within 15 minutes.
