Synestrol has an estrogenic effect.

Estrogen, a derivative of stilbene, has estrogenic activity equivalent to estrone (a natural follicular hormone necessary for normal development of the female body). Together with the corpus luteum hormone, follicular hormone is involved in the regulation of the menstrual cycle.

Estrogens, by interacting with specific receptors, influence target organs. Under their influence in the fallopian tubes, cervix, vagina, external genitalia and mammary ducts the proliferation of epithelium occurs. Increases the sensitivity of uterine muscles and fallopian tubes to stimulating their motility.

It has a hypolipidemic effect, increases the blood content of alpha-lipoproteins and sensitivity to insulin, and improves glucose utilization. In high doses estrogens retain water and Na+ in the body, inhibit erythropoiesis. In high doses inhibit and in low doses activate FSH secretion.

The circulation of large amounts of estrogens in the blood for a short time promotes ovulatory type LH production. Hexestrol alleviates pathological menopause in women, prevents the development of postmenopausal osteoporosis, eliminates general disorders arising in women on the basis of ovarian hypofunction after gynecological operations.

How to take, the dosage

Sinestrol is administered intramuscularly.

The doses are set individually depending on the diagnosis. As a rule, 0.5-5 ml of 2% solution once a day for a month.

The highest single dose for malignant formations is 0.06 g (3 ml – 2% solution); the highest daily dose is 0.1 g (5 ml – 2% solution).

Interaction

The anti-estrogenic drugs (clomiphene and others) used to treat infertility can block estrogen receptors and weaken the effects of estrogen.

Folic acid and thyroid medications enhance the effects of hexestrol.

Hexestrol increases the effectiveness of hypolipidemic and antiarrhythmic drugs; it reduces the effects of male sex hormones, diuretics and anticoagulants.
