The Ringer’s solution is a rehydrating agent, has a detoxifying effect, restores blood composition both aqueous and electrolyte.

When used as a means to replenish the volume of circulating blood, due to rapid exit from the bloodstream into the extravasal space, the effect lasts for only 30-40 minutes.

This short-lived effect allows the solution to be used only for short-term replenishment of circulating blood volume.

Indications

Shock, thermal trauma, acute blood loss; dehydration;

intestinal fistula;

acute intestinal infections (severe course, inability to take rehydration drugs for oral administration);

Therapeutic plasmapheresis;

correction of the water and salt balance in acute disseminated peritonitis and intestinal obstruction.

How to take, the dosage

Intravenously by drip, at a rate of 60-80 drops/min, or by jetting.

The daily dose for adults is 5-20 ml/kg, if necessary it can be increased to 30-50 ml/kg.

The daily dose for children is 5-10 ml/kg and infusion rate is 30-60 drops/minute, in case of shock the initial dose is 20-30 ml/kg. The course of treatment is 3-5 days.

In therapeutic plasmapheresis is administered in a volume of 2 times the volume of the removed plasma (1.2-2.4 liters), in case of severe hypovolemia – in combination with colloidal solutions.

The maximum volume of administered solution is 3 liters/day.

Special Instructions

In case of rapid administration of a large volume it is necessary to monitor the acid-base state and electrolyte concentration. Changes in blood pH leads to redistribution of K+ (decrease in pH leads to an increase in the content of K+ ions in blood serum).

Freezing of the drug if the container remains airtight is not a contraindication to the use of the drug. The contents of the container should not be used if cloudy.

When combining with other drugs, visual compatibility must be checked.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, hypernatremia, hyperchloremia, acidosis, severe chronic heart failure, cerebral edema, pulmonary edema, chronic renal failure, concomitant therapy with glucocorticosteroids.

Periodic use in renal dysfunction

Side effects

Hyperhydration, hypokalemia, allergic reactions.

Overdose

In case of overdose there may be imbalance of water and electrolytes (hypervolemia, hypernatriemia, hyperkalemia, hypercalcemia, hyperchloremia) and acid-base equilibrium.

In case of overdose, in most cases, it is sufficient to interrupt the administration.
