Pharmacodynamics

Vitamin B2 has metabolic effects; It interacts with ATP to form flavinprotein coenzymes, flavinadenine mononucleotide and flavinadenine mononucleotide, which are components of enzymes such as succinate dehydrogenase, cytochrome reductase, diaphorase, amino acid oxidase, etc. By regulating redox processes, it participates in hydrogen (H+) transfer, tissue respiration, carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism, in the maintenance of normal visual function of the eye, in the synthesis of hemoglobin and erythropoietin.

The riboflavin-activated pyridoxalkinase converts pyridoxine (vitamin B6) into the active form pyridoxal phosphate. It is a part of glutathione reductase, xanthine oxidase.

It is synthesized by normal intestinal microflora and is necessary for its maintenance.

Distribution

The binding (mainly as metabolites – flavinadeninmononucleotide and flavinadenindinucleotide) to plasma proteins is 60%. It is distributed in all organs and tissues, deposited in muscle tissue, liver, spleen, kidney and myocardium. Passes through the placenta and into breast milk.

Metabolism

Metabolized in the liver. The main metabolites are flavinadeninmononucleotide and flavinadenindinucleotide.

Elimation

The elimination half-life (T ¹/₂) is 66-84 min, equilibrium volume of distribution about 40 l, total clearance about 0.3 l/min.

Extracted from the body by the kidneys, almost completely as metabolites, when taken in high doses – mostly unchanged. It is excreted in small amounts through the intestine.

Extracted by hemodialysis, but much slower than by renal excretion.

Composition

Active substance:

Riboflavin (in the form of mononucleotide) 10 mg.

How to take, the dosage

Intramuscularly.

Adults are prescribed 10 mg (1 ml of 1% solution) once a day.

The course of treatment is 10-20 days.

Depending on age, children are prescribed 5 mg-10 mg (0.5-1 ml of 1% solution) for 3-5 consecutive days, then 2-3 times a week.

Contraindications

-Excessive sensitivity to the drug.
-Pregnancy.
-Breastfeeding period.
