Vitamin A normalizes metabolism, has a restorative effect on the human body, is involved in redox processes and processes of photoreception (helps improve visual adaptation in the dark), as well as in the synthesis of lipids, proteins, mucopolysaccharides, glycosaminoglycans, in the process of cholesterol formation and mineral metabolism.
Indications
For systemic use: Avitaminosis and hypovitaminosis A;
As part of the complex treatment of infectious diseases (including dysentery, measles), eye diseases (hemeralopia, retinitis pigmentosa, xerophthalmia, eczematous eyelid lesions, keratomalacia, conjunctivitis), skin diseases (frostbite, burns, some forms of eczema, wounds, hyperkeratosis, skin tuberculosis, ichthyosis pyoderma, psoriasis and other degenerative and inflammatory pathological processes), hypotrophy, rickets, acute respiratory diseases, chronic and acute bronchopulmonary diseases (including tracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), inflammatory and erosive-ulcerous lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, liver cirrhosis.

Composition
How to take, the dosage
Retinol is used internally, intramuscularly, externally.
Mild to moderate avitaminosis: adults – up to 33000 IU/day, eye diseases (xerophthalmia, hemeralopia, retinitis pigmentosa) – 50000-100000 IU/day. Children – 1000-5000 IU/day, depending on age.
Skin diseases: children – 5000-10000-20000 IU/day, adults – 50000-100000 IU/day.
Oil solutions can also be used topically for frostbite, ulcers, burns by dabbing 5-6 times a day and covering with a gauze dressing; simultaneously retinol is prescribed intramuscularly or internally.
Externally: 2 times a day (early in the morning and late in the evening) apply a thin layer of the ointment to the affected areas of skin; use under an occlusive dressing if the skin is very flaky.
Interaction
Do not combine retinol with other drugs that contain retinoids and vitamin A (to avoid hypervitaminosis A).
Retinol is not compatible with tetracycline antibiotics.
Glucocorticoids and salicylates reduce the possibility of adverse reactions.
Estrogens and oral contraceptives that contain them increase the plasma concentration of vitamin A.
Retinol mutually reduces the risk of hypervitaminosis D.
Nitrites, colestipol, colestyramine, neomycin (when taken orally) impair retinol absorption.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, chronic pancreatitis, cholelithiasis, pregnancy (1st trimester).
Overdose
In acute hypervitaminosis A, the following symptoms occur: Severe headache, drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, convulsions, visual disturbances, profuse diarrhea, uncontrollable vomiting, severe dehydration; on the second day there is a widespread rash with further, beginning with the face, coarse lamellar peeling; palpation of the long tubular bones is acutely painful because of subcostal hemorrhages, soft tissue and bone changes.
In children with acute hypervitaminosis, restlessness, insomnia during the first day, sometimes there is a temperature increase to 39 ° C, drowsiness, vomiting, signs of choking, protrusion of the great fontanelle.
Treatment: symptomatic therapy is necessary, thyroxine and ascorbic acid are used as antagonists.
