Pharmacological action – broad spectrum antimicrobial.

Pharmacodynamics

Sulfonamide is an antimicrobial bacteriostatic agent. Mechanism of action is related to competitive antagonism with PABA and inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase, which leads to disruption of dihydrofolic acid and then tetrahydrofolic acid synthesis, resulting in disruption of microbial nucleic acid synthesis. It is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Vibrio cholerae, Clostridium spp., Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Yersinia pestis, Chlamydia spp., Actinomyces spp., Toxoplasma gondii.

Indications

As part of the complex therapy:

– infected wounds;

– infected burns (I-II degree);

– purulent inflammatory processes of soft tissue.

Composition

How to take, the dosage

Externally, apply directly to the affected surface. Dressings are done after 1-2 days.

The maximum doses for adults: single dose – 5 g, daily dose – 15 g; for children over 3 years: single dose – 300 mg, daily dose – 300 mg.

In case of deep wounds 5, 10 or 15 g of powder are put into the wound cavity.

If after treatment there is no improvement or new symptoms appear, a doctor should be consulted.

Special Instructions

A lot of alkaline drinking is recommended during therapy.

If necessary, oral antimicrobial agents are prescribed at the same time.

In case of hypersensitivity reactions, treatment should be discontinued.

In long-term treatment, systematic monitoring of blood count, kidney and liver function is recommended.

If the medication is prescribed to a patient, it should not be given to others, because it could cause harm to them, even if they have the same symptoms as the patient.

The effect of the drug on the ability to drive vehicles, machinery. Studies of the effect of the drug on the reaction rate while driving vehicles or operating other mechanisms have not been carried out. Taking into account the side effects of the drug (dizziness), caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery.

Contraindications

hypersensitivity to sulfonamides;

diseases of the hematopoietic system;

– inhibition of medullary hematopoiesis;

– anemia;

– chronic heart failure;

– thyrotoxicosis;

– renal/liver failure;

– azotemia;

– porphyria;

– congenital deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;

– pregnancy;

– period of breastfeeding.

With caution: children under 3 years of age.

Side effects

In case of hypersensitivity to sulfonamides, allergic reactions are possible, the development of which requires immediate withdrawal of the drug. In addition, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, cyanosis, leukopenia, agranulocytosis, crystalluria may occur.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, intestinal colic, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, depression, fainting, confusion, visual disturbances, fever, hematuria, crystalluria; in prolonged overdose – thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, megaloblastic anemia, jaundice.

Treatment: plenty of fluids; in case of accidental ingestion – gastric lavage.
