How to take, the dosage

Adults and children over 14 years: take one packet every 4-6 hours, but no more than 4 packets in 24 hours.

The drug should not be taken for more than five days without a doctor’s consultation.

If symptoms persist, a doctor should be consulted.

Interaction

Stimulants of microsomal oxidation in the liver (phenytoin, ethanol, barbiturates, rifampicin, phenylbutazone, tricyclic antidepressants) increase the production of hydroxylated active metabolites of paracetamol, which causes the possibility of severe intoxication in small overdoses.

Microsomal oxidation inhibitors (cimetidine) reduce the risk of hepatotoxic effects of the drug.

Paracetamol increases the effects of MAO inhibitors, sedatives and ethanol.

Ethanol promotes acute pancreatitis.

Antidepressants, antiparkinsonian and antipsychotic drugs, phenothiazine derivatives increase the risk of urinary retention, dry mouth, constipation.

The GCSs increase the risk of glaucoma.

Phenylephrine reduces the hypotensive effect of guanethidine.

Guanethidine increases the alpha-adrenergic stimulant effect, and tricyclic antidepressants increase the sympathomimetic effects of phenylephrine.

The drug reduces the effectiveness of uricosuric drugs.

In delayed gastric emptying (propantelin), there may be a delayed onset of drug action.

If gastric emptying is accelerated (metoclopramide), the drug takes effect more quickly.

The drug may increase the effect of indirect anticoagulants.

Special Instructions

Do not concomitantly use other medicinal products containing paracetamol, as well as other non-narcotic analgesics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (metamisole, acetylsalicylic acid, ibuprofen), barbiturates, antiepileptic drugs, rifampicin, chloramphenicol.

The simultaneous use of other medications should be coordinated with the doctor.

It distorts the results of laboratory tests assessing plasma concentrations of glucose and uric acid .

Contraindications

With caution:

Side effects

Allergic reactions: sometimes – skin rash, itching, urticaria, angioedema.

Hematopoietic system: rarely – thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, agranulocytosis.

The digestive system: rarely – nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain.

Others: rare – increase in intraocular pressure, urinary retention.

Hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic effects may be observed with prolonged use in excess of the recommended dose.

Phenylephrine hydrochloride may cause nausea, headache, increased BP; rarely, a feeling of palpitations. These symptoms go away after discontinuation of the drug.

Overdose

Paracetamol overdose occurs after taking 10-15 g (15-20 sachets of Prostudox).

Symptoms: discomfort in the epigastric region, nausea, vomiting, pale skin, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, hepatonecrosis (severity of necrosis directly depends on the degree of overdose), increased liver transaminases activity, increased prothrombin time (12-48 hours after ingestion), the developed clinical picture of liver damage is shown in 1-6 days. Rarely, liver dysfunction develops fulminantly and may be complicated by renal failure (renal tubular necrosis).

Treatment: symptomatic, gastric lavage, administration of SH-group donators and precursors of glutathione synthesis – methionine in 8-9 hours after overdose and N-acetylcysteine in 12 hours. The need for additional therapeutic measures (further methionine administration, intravenous N-acetylcysteine administration) is determined depending on the concentration of paracetamol in blood, as well as on the time elapsed after its administration.

Pregnancy use

It is contraindicated in pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
