Pirantel, suspension 250 mg/5 ml 15 ml

A broad spectrum anthelminthic drug. Causes neuromuscular blockade of sensitive helminthes. It is active against Enterobius vermicularis, Ascaris lumbriocoides, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, Trichostrongylus orientalis, Trichostrongylus colubriformis. It acts on both mature and immature individuals of both sexes, it does not act on larvae in migration stage.

How to take, the dosage

In case of ascariasis and enterobiasis, in mixed infestations with these helminths – orally, once, after breakfast at the rate of 10 mg/kg.

Adults and children over 12 years old – 750 mg, if the body weight is more than 75 kg – 1 g.

In children from 6 months to 2 years – 125 mg, 2-6 years – 250 mg, 6-12 years – 500 mg. In order to avoid self-infection it is allowed to repeat the course in 3 weeks after the first intake.

In case of ankylostomiasis, combination of necatoriasis with ascariasis or other combined helminthic lesions, 10 mg/kg/day for 3 days or 20 mg/kg/day for 2 days.

In isolated ascariasis 5 mg/kg once.

Interaction

When used together with piperazine adipinate Pirantel acts antagonistically (this combination is not recommended). Increases the concentration of theophylline in plasma.

Special Instructions

Contraindications

With caution, use in liver failure and children under 6 months.

Side effects

Gastrointestinal tract and liver: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain are possible; rarely – increased activity of liver transaminases.

CNS disorders: headache, dizziness, somnolence, insomnia, weakness; in some cases – hearing disorders, hallucinations, confusion, paresthesias.

Others: skin rash, increased body temperature.
