Phytolacca decandra (Phytolacca americana) is a tall herbaceous plant with the appearance of a small tree, growing in North America.

Chemical composition:

Saponins, including phytolacosides A and B, with anti-rheumatic and anti-inflammatory properties;
-lignans: neolignans, including Americanin A and B;
– lectins with mitogenic effects on lymphocytes; some of these proteins have antiviral properties (inactivate ribosome subunits and disrupt viral replication) against herpes, influenza, polio, HIV-1 viruses;
– gamma-aminobutyric acid.
